dpe8598 07-13-07, 04:17 PM They are really really close. The next step, which won't be completely possible IMO until next generation, is to get photo and physics realistic crashes and body damage. GT never lets down.
_Avarice_ 07-13-07, 04:18 PM Ridiculous, isn't it?!
ppshooky 07-13-07, 04:20 PM Impressive. Too bad you didn't have real life in-motion shots, instead of still. Then we could compare the motion blur.

preeeeetty!
like.no.other. 07-13-07, 04:20 PM If there isn't any damage, I think the quality and detail will make up for it.
Another thing I like is the way the lighting on these car doesn't look like
a reflective paint. It's more natural.

I've always regarded it as a pure driving simulator with amazing attention to detail. It's about the actual racing, not the spectacle of crashing. Microsoft's flight simulator doesn't (or at least didn't; I haven't used one since 2005) have crash models. You just line up and start again.
Some of those "real" shots are actually CG also.... not that it makes the turismo models any less impressive. Very nice!
_Avarice_ 07-13-07, 04:29 PM Some of those "real" shots are actually CG also.... not that it makes the turismo models any less impressive. Very nice!
I was under the impression that these are all in-game, albeit in "replay" mode. Do you know something to the contrary?

All of it is real time. Watch the press conference. Altough replay mode seems to
make it better, it is all real time engine.
10Drunks&aDriver 07-13-07, 04:38 PM man I absolutely can't wait
GT5:Prologue can't come soon enough.
ppshooky 07-13-07, 04:58 PM I was under the impression that these are all in-game, albeit in "replay" mode. Do you know something to the contrary?
They were referring to the pictures on the right column.
joeblow 07-13-07, 05:04 PM The final game next year will have damage modeling as an upgrade after release. They said it'll take time to do it right, and I believe them considering these amazing visuals.
_Avarice_ 07-13-07, 05:19 PM They were referring to the pictures on the right column.
Ah.....they are?! Could've fooled me!
I was under the impression that these are all in-game, albeit in "replay" mode. Do you know something to the contrary?
I was only referring to the "real-life" comparison shots on the right collumn. The idea was to compare GT's in-game graphics with photos of actual cars, but some of the photos of actual cars are also CG!
That doesn't take away from the impressiveness of GT's graphics at all. I'm just pointing out something that probably only strikes a CG geek like myself as funny. :-D
ppshooky 07-13-07, 05:29 PM Even comparing the in-game photo to a CGI, it's still pretty impressive.
Not a big racing fan, but I know my brother-in-law is, and he and my future brother-in-law love Forza 2. They haven't seen the trailer for GT yet....
metrognomerical 07-13-07, 05:30 PM I remember when I had first got my PS2 and GT3 came out. I remember how I was entranced by the realism and how amazing it was. This blows all that waaaaaaay out of the water. This will easily be the best looking PS3 title when it finally hits, as the GT series has always been a benchmark of quality for sony.
can't wait can't wait can't wait CANT WAIT
joe_six_pack 07-13-07, 05:34 PM ^^ I know a few car nuts that bought the ps2 just for GTA3 &4, and will buy the ps3 just for GTA5.
CommanderCool 07-13-07, 05:45 PM i must say..puts forza 2 to shame
kidgenius 07-13-07, 05:50 PM A lot of your r8 shots, and I think even that gt-r shot are renderings. Rendering vs. rendering is all you are comparing
Which ones are real and which ones are game? I only see one column no left vs. right.

Is that a promise from Sony? Like, "I will resign my position at Sony if an update to add damage is not released." Do you have a source to confirm plans for an update?
I'm one of those guys who bought a PS2 JUST for GT4. It's nice but damage is the next level. If they don't include damage I'll consider the whole PS3 a failure for me. GT5 with great Force Feedback and a damage model is why I have the PS3. Thankfully they've adressed FF, and hopefully damage will be next.
ppshooky 07-13-07, 07:07 PM A lot of your r8 shots, and I think even that gt-r shot are renderings. Rendering vs. rendering is all you are comparing
According to E3 interviews, the GT5 shots were supposedly in-game shots and not CG renderings.
So, technically you're not comparing a rendering to a rendering. But, I do understand what you mean.
Also, picture quality of real qualities should also play a factor in comparison.
TheMoose 07-13-07, 08:59 PM ^^ I know a few car nuts that bought the ps2 just for GTA3 &4, and will buy the ps3 just for GTA5.
Guilty as charged!!
I probably would have waited to buy the PS3 but the GTHD download was available so I got it early & I'm glad I did, Besides GTHD I have Motorstorm F1 CE & 50 Blu-Ray movies! :D
Broccoli 07-13-07, 09:34 PM I really hope it will run at 60FPS. I'm really enjoying the good framerate in Forza 2.

If history has anything to do w/ it, it will run very smoothely
zaptruder 07-14-07, 12:09 PM I really hope it will run at 60FPS. I'm really enjoying the good framerate in Forza 2.
Kazunori does not settle for anything less than 60FPS.
Anyone here have a full on, 3 monitor, racing seat, wheel and perhaps hydraulic setup?
... hydraulics may be a tad too expensive, but sure would be nice... but you could afford the rest of the setup*6 (for multilink battle!) for the cost of the hydraulics.
Sean Max 07-14-07, 01:13 PM Comparing a flight simulator with no crash mode to a racing game where you are driving around a track with other cars and real obstacles to run into isn't really a valid comparison. Having played GT3 and GT4 as well as Forza 1 and 2, I can tell you that having simulated damage makes a TON of difference in how the game is played. For instance if I am trailing a CPU (or even player controlled) car going into a sharp turn in GT then there's no reason for me not to just T-bone the lead car and put it into the wall as I make my turn, but if I do that in Forza I damage my car, jack up the fender, damage the alignment and steering, etc. degrading the performance of my car and my ability to race, so I have to use better technique to execute the pass without damaging my car. I can still rub or bump the other guy, but not just flat out crush him. Also, in Forza 2 when running in manual if you're going flat out down a straight away in fifth gear and just drop to third without breaking and letting off the accelerator first, you damage your engine (slightly, but keep doing it and you'll blow the thing), instead of just dropping two gears and redlining.
I really hope that GT5 gets real time damage, either up front or as an add-on, and I hope that it's damage that's not just cosmetic, but affects performance as well. It's a real gap in the simulation aspect of a series that prides itself on the level of detail and realism in its simulations.
bulb hater 07-14-07, 01:35 PM Please tell me the GT4 steering wheel will work with GT5......would they REALLY make us buy another $150+ wheel?
TheMoose 07-14-07, 02:56 PM Please tell me the GT4 steering wheel will work with GT5......would they REALLY make us buy another $150+ wheel?
I'm sure it will but I'm hoping for an upgraded G25 with bluetooth!!
bulb hater 07-14-07, 05:10 PM ^^^^ Thanx bro. I also heard somewhere that force feedback was scrapped fro GT5....that's gotta be BS.......no?.......musta been for one of teh demos?

There was an update that added Force Feedback to GTHD & I'd bet money that GT 5 prologue & GT 5 will have full force feedback included.

The comparison is down. But I posted new pictures. Try to google images the
same as the GT5 and compare it if you want.

Tenkaipalm 07-15-07, 12:22 AM Wow... looks incredicle. Amazing. As long as there's damage, I'm there. I'm also hoping for FULL clutch and 6gate shifter support, along with GTR2-esque physics, but I'll live with gorgeous graphics and damage. No damage would be a deal breaker.
You will never see damage modeling in a GT game regardless of the console power because the car companies that license the cars to Sony and Microsoft for their games will not allow it.
gamelover360 07-15-07, 01:18 AM These shots are not what you will actually see when you race. I will be impressed when we get that level of detail in game........not replay, etc.

True. I remember the same thing about forza 2. Believe it when you see it & the game/demo is in your hands. Or at the very least, a video of real gameplay. Plenty of ways for them to doctor up screens.

GT games have always had the same level of visuals in replays and in-game. the only exception is GT:HD where they add motion blur effects. some of the shots above appear to be CG (like the shots of the Nissan Xanavi). everything else seems to be real time and we can expect the same level of visuals while playing. PD can do some amazing things with PS hardware.
GT:HD isn't THAT far off (most noticeable differences with the new shots are theres much better anti-aliasing and the lighting seems to be better making the cars appear to be more real, which is a hard task as GT:HD already looked pretty darn realistic).
something you have to realize is in a replay, you can see the whole car as if a camera were watching it from a far, whereas in game, all you see is the rear of the car (if you use that view) so replays always appear to be more impressive.

Not true. One of the main talking points of GT1 was how good the replays looked. The replays in GT1 and 2 looked way better than while playing. There was added reflections lighting effects. I think GT3 and 4 didn't look different in the replays, though.

ok, maybe...i have played all of the GT's, but i don't remember that far back. :)
but yeah, i think we can expect the same level of visuals in game, or at least comparable.

Its pretty standard to spoof up the replays, no doubt. But the difference b/w replays and in game play has never been huge in GT, visible, but not huge. These pics definitely excite me. Just the fact that they can do this on the in game engine excites me.
