View Full Version : 55" To 58" Professional Plasma's
JCNPLUMBING 07-13-07, 04:46 PM I need a 55" to 58" professional plasma soon. The 58" Panny look's like it won't be available till fall. I have one ordered but today I learn that it won't be soon. I use a scaler, don't want to pay for tuner or sound. I want the availability of calibration with 1:1 mapping. I can't find anything that meets my needs. I would consider 720 or 1080p. Am I missing something?
Cleveland Plasma 07-13-07, 05:24 PM Ah, the 58" Panasonic TH-58PH10UK are out now !!! Oh ya !!!
JCNPLUMBING 07-13-07, 05:35 PM Ah, the 58" Panasonic TH-58PH10UK are out now !!! Oh ya !!!
Why do you say that?
Cleveland Plasma 07-13-07, 05:41 PM I am sorry to hear you are being told fall, when the TH-58PH10UK are now out and availible to purchase on the street ;)

The next question would be does that mean who has them would want a more $ for them.
Cleveland Plasma 07-13-07, 06:31 PM Depends where you look. Keep in mind though:
The best price is not always the best deal.
By the way Hitachi used to make a 55" Monitor, but not anymore. At this Point Hitachi is out of the monitor game.

click on the cleveland plasma text link at the bottom of the page. click the plasma link on his site and the pansonic logo and you will find the panny 58ph10uk, it shows in stock for sale at a good price. chris is an excellent forum sponsor to deal with.
Will-san 07-14-07, 01:45 AM Does anyone have one of these yet?
creemail 07-14-07, 02:29 AM Does anyone have one of these yet?
Yes, I believe these are in stock...
Cleveland Plasma 07-14-07, 11:31 AM I dought if anyone has one yet to right a review as these just huit the streets yesdterday. I attached a PDF below on the TH-58PH10UK.
I also find it interesting that Panasonic WILL NOT be making a consumer 58", they were going to release the TH-58PX75U, but cancelled there plans  The TH-58PH10UK will be the only 58" out this year from Panasonic in 720P.
Zinthar 07-14-07, 12:30 PM I'm considering getting a 58ph10uk. But my question is, what all would I be missing out on if I go with this? Obviously the speakers, stand, and lack of inputs (save for VGA and maybe a component)... but what else that might be very useful?
I know I'll have to use slots and put in my own HDMI blades. Do these use the same blades as the 8UK & 9UK, or is there any kind of HDMI 1.3 support available? I'm concerned that it looks like there's no way to pass the HDMI audio through the monitor and output it via optical to my receiver on a Panny Pro model. Is this correct?
Cleveland Plasma 07-14-07, 02:44 PM Not much else would be useful except for maybe the SD card reader. Keep in mind the 10UK has more tweaking abilities.
I am pretty sure the other input cards will work. The is no 1.3 HDMI card available as of yet, but eventually there may be one.
As far as the audio you would want to run audio to audio and video to video, when using the 10UK and you will be all set.

It looks like the DVI TY_42M6D board that gave native on the 8 will not give it in the 10. It shows a DVI TY-FB95FDD for 1366 x 768@60
creemail 07-14-07, 06:02 PM The thing that people don't talk much about is that the pro series allows you to change the gamma, much better than the consumer series. The results can be much better on their pro models if adjusted correctly.

Why do you think this display is better than 8 or 9. Also I noticed in the specs it says optional accessories anti-glare filter. What's that?
mfogarty5 07-14-07, 08:55 PM I have the same two questions as JCMPLUMBING.
1. Per the document that Chris @ Cleveland Plasma posted, the 58" does not accept it's native resolution over DVI.
2. Why is the anti-glare optional and how is it applied?
Also, will the 58 inch only be available in 1366x768? It appears that only the 50 inch and 65 inch are available in 1080p.

It say's that board is for the PF series not the PH. So my question is will it work in the PH series since it's in the available boards list.
creemail 07-15-07, 10:44 AM JCN,
Yes this board and most of the other video boards will work with the 10UK series. The TY-42M6D does not support full resolution. Only the TY-FB9FDD that is compatible to the PF supports full resolution.

I'll tell you something! I sold my 50" series 8 and installed it yesterday for a customer. I have always used a scaler. Oh my God! I will never be without a scaler. People are better off paying less money for a panel and buying a scaler. The hd looked fine but everything else, yikes!
Cleveland Plasma 07-15-07, 02:13 PM You are right about that......... scaler help out quite a bit.

Can you elaborate a bit on this post? you used a scaler and when you hooke it up for some one else you did not and it looked bad? What scaler do you use?
I have a HD tivo and let it scale SD to TV up to 1080i and it looks fine.

I have the VP30 with abt 102 card. The scaler makes a huge difference with standard def. I have Dish. I think it's the thing where you can't imagine until you have it and see it.

That's crazy. They dropped 1024x768, 1066x600, and most crucially, 1366x768!
If that really is true then Panasonic is deliberately crippling the 720p models in an effort to force people to go 1080p. No more native resolution over DVI for 720p models, it appears. :(
I would probably buy a 1080p model if I were purchasing today anyway, but since there is no 42" and 58" 1080p commercial models released yet, that won't work for a large number of folks. Not to mention the cost difference. This just seems like a pretty dirty move if it is really true.
Techniwizard, if you are listening, can you confirm or refute this?

If your talking the commercial model this is the answer.

Thanks for posting.
Not that I have any reason to think he is incorrect, but I do wonder if he has actually tested this, or if he is simply looking at the same spec sheet that we are to get his answer?

It's a DVI board with the proper resolution. The other board that worked on the earlier series was DVI also. The spec, is from the TH-58 manual. I think it makes sense.

Take a look at this attachment. I tried to post it but couldn't. Post #11 from Cleveland. This is the specs I'm talking about on the Panasonic TH-58PH10UK Thread. Scroll up the page to post 11.

I apologize, but I am not sure I understand what you are saying.

Its actually not in the th-58PH10UK manual since the DVI board doesn't ship with the displays itself. The manual only lists resolutions for the Component, RGB and Composite inputs that come with the display.
The only reason I am even questioning the PDF posted above is that this represents a big change from past models, and it also seems like a bad move as far as removing functionality that many customers have found invaluable in the past.

Hey Cleveland, could you tell us where that spec sheet is from. Thanks.

Yea I thought that. But I could not find it. All I could see was the manual.
