Ok I've swapped out the cable, the console, and hooked up my xbox 360 into the same set of inputs and I'm still having this same issue. Sony tech support didn't have a clue what to tell me other than it must be my TV or I need to send the ps3 in for service (even though I exchanged both the console and the cable at the store).

When using the Web Browser if I zoom in on a web page (google for example) my screen goes blank and scrolls. I also have this issue in certain game demos and when viewing downloaded videos/trailers.

However if I set my ps3 to 480p the problem goes away even though my TV supports up to 1080i. Whats stranger is Resistance and Ninja Gaiden both run just fine without any issues at 720p (Resistance) and Ninja Gaiden (1080i).

I'm really stumped on this one. My Xbox 360 (which I swapped inputs with my PS3 to make sure) works just fine at 720p/1080i.

Gear:

Toshiba 51h83 (suppose to upscale everything to 1080i which it does just fine without any problem on my 360)
Sony brand Component video cable
Playstation 3 (60gig)

I've tried every combo of checking everything (display settings menu) 480p/720p/1080i to just 720p and just 1080i and the problem is still there. Yet if I set it to 480p only the problem goes away. Does the PS3 have a problem with 1080i Native HDTV's? I thought I had heard about them having an issue in the past but that it was fixed via firmware update (yep I'm up to date too).

I'm not sure why but it seems my PS3 doesn't like my component switch. I ran the PS3 direct to the TV and the problem went away. The strange thing is I've got all sorts of gear including my xbox 360 hooked up to the switch and they all work and look fine. The 360 is actually now hooked up to the set of inputs that I had been using for the PS3.

i am going through the same thing, and I also have a component switcher. dang - i kind of figured that was the problem.

Did you also notice that sound would sometimes drop on PS3? (I take it that you are running sound through a SS system). It's gotta be associated to the switcher.

thanks for posting!

The strange thing is my Xbox 360, Wii, Xbox, and Region free DVD player all have no issues through the switcher. My PS3 also didn't have any audio issues. It was just the video problems I mentioned above.

Audio is run via optical to the switch and then out to my reciever. The receiver only has 2 inputs one for the switch and one for the ps3. Though before when I was having the video problems I had the ps3's audio going to the switch and audio was still fine.

Which one are you using? My component switch is made by Psyclone. Wasn't the most expensive switch but its powered and had a remote (I think it was about $100).

my sound issue was discussed in this post here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=875547). Guess there's nothing I can do about that except move faster in the XMB.

I have the same switcher and digital audio out (it's why I got that particular one)

Oh well, now I am faced with the dilemma of taking the PS3 off the switcher and losing digital audio out. Are you in the same boat? I guess the screen blacking out is more important than perfect sound.

My TV has 2 sets of component inputs and my reciever has 2 optical ports so I'm running the PS3 direct and everything else through the switch (everything else has no issue with the switcher even the 360).

so I swapped out the PS3 with my Wii. The PS3 video issue is gone, but I am stuck with crappy sound. Unfortunately the sound output from my TV causes crackles when things gets too loud in a game. boo. And now that the Wii is hooked up to the switchbox, I got no sound from the Wii.

Maybe it's time to just buy a new TV with many HDMI, component and digital sound outputs. Either that or this weekend I'll be re-wiring my entertainment center.
