I'm format neutral. I like both and have both. But this will be a advantage for HD-DVD.

Columbia House in the next month will start rolling out there HD titles

they will be carrying on

HD-DVD

Warner
Universal
Paramount
Weinstein Company

Blu-ray

Warner
Paramount
Sony-owned Columbia Tri-Star

But there will be no Fox, also as far as I know no MGM titles by Fox either
And no Disney or Buena Vista Home Entertainment

So what does that mean almost all HD-DVD title will be available while less then half will be available on Blu-ray.

Once the online crowd see's that option don't be surprised if the tilt goes toward HD-DVD.

People my age use columbia house like crazy.

Columbia House stopped carrying Disney titles a while ago. I ended my stint with them after I bought all the DVDs I was required. They are outrageous when it comes to shipping costs. Every once and a while they'd run a great deal, but even those weren't that great. Amazon has better prices the majority of the time, and I don't have to make a minimum purchase within 2 years.

I honestly think it will help both equally. The only way it will tilt is if HD-DVD studios actually START RELEASING MOVIES! The problem is that HDDVD has been in a drought for quite some time. Catalogue titles are great, when done properly, but this crap Universal is pulling as of late isn't going to cut it. Also, some movies will not be available through Columbia House. Each studio says either yay or nay when it comes to that. I can't remember which ones, but there were a lot of Warner DVDs missing when I was still there (around 4 months ago).

Just my opinion. Only time will tell.

Are not these two one and the same company (now branded Disney)?!

First I don’t know how you can say there is an HD DVD Content drought when they have closed the gap with their release schedule. On April 24, 2007 there were 181 HD DVDs and 210 BDs available in North America; a 29 disk advantage for Blu-ray. By the end of July there will be 264 HD DVDs and 272 BDs available; only an 8 disk advantage for Blu-ray.

I will admit that there have been few D&D releases for HD DVD and that the vast majority of these releases have been catalog titles. I guess it doesn’t bother me because I really only purchase catalog titles; how do I know if a film is worth of buying in HD if I’ve never seen it? Still it should be noted that some of the D&D BD exclusives that came out this summer, such as Ghost Rider, will soon be available for import from Europe. Then there is the fact some BD exclusives that were set to be released in NA (Mr. & Mrs. Smith) were not, but did see HD DVD releases in Europe.
