hello all,

I purchased a sony kds-r50xbr1 back in december 2005 from best buy (including a service contract which at the time I thought was a rip off but now may pay off). So it's been working great until now, when coincidentally I moved from cablevision (stb: scientific atlanta e8300hd) to FIOStv (stb: motorola qip6416-2). now almost everything appears to have a green tint to it. there's no blob or anything, it just appears that everything is slightly green and no amount of color, hue, tint, etc. adjustment can get rid of it.

I initially blamed the motorola qip6416-2 for this problem, but it appears to persist even when I use component cables with the motorola and when I use my lg lda511 dvd player over HDMI. i also have the same qip6416-2 on another tv in the house so I tried switching the qip6416-2 units and the hdmi cables to no avail. i've also tried adjusting the qip6416-2 4:3 override to off, etc. to no avail. so it seems to me that the problem is just with my kds-r50xbr1 and it's a terrible coincidence that this started happening immediately after the fios switch.

so my question is, what can I do about this? it sucks to spend ~$4K to live with a green screen less than 2 years later. I've seen on some threads that sony can replace some kind of light or color unit in the kds-r50xbr1 if you hassle them, but I wonder if I should be pursuing this through best buy since I paid for their service contract. I just hope bb / sony will recognize that this is a problem and not just say "it works" since it turns on, etc.

thoughts?

thanks
Chris

If your having the tint on multiple connections (cable/DVD), then it sounds like you have a failing optical block.

Call Sony and get a ref # and a list of service vendors in your area. Make an appointment and have them come out and replace your OB. Sony should not give you any problems. Or you could use your BB extended warranty. It really up to you, but either option should not cost you anything. Also, you may want to post future questions about this set in the XBR1 owners thread, as there are many helpful members that frequent that thread that are quite knowledgeable about specific problems with these sets.

edit..link to XBR1 thread just in case :) :
