Ok I just started fooling with the streaming ability of the PS3 as a media center.
I've set up sharing with WMP 11 on my PC and I've added some JPEGS, WMP, MP3 and some videos (I believe they are divx avi files).
NOw, I'm assuming the PS3 can't read the divx/avi files.....but what about the jpegs or music? I can't seem to see anything at all from the PS3.
So....any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Yeah, you're using WMP 11 as your media server! :)
Seriusly though, make sure that sharing is set along with the selected device (PS3) and you have everything you want cataloged in the WMP library (otherwise it won't show up on the PS3). This is all it took for me.
Personally, I'm using Nero Media Home which transcodes Divx/Xvid to mpeg on the fly so I can watch them on PS3. Very cool (but no rewind/fast forward). Get this or TVersity. Transcoding is a must.
Setup was breeze as well.

when transcoding wmv files there seems to be some green banding going on on my screen :(

Hmm, I don't have that problem with wmv. Are you using Nero or something else? I keep my software updated just in case.

well... you can strip them.
I transcode most of my stuff with red kawa, and it does a really nice job. I can post my setup parameters if you need it. Once you set it up, it's pretty much a 2 click affair.

when trying to look for the pictures or music, be sure you're looking in the correct folder of the ps3. for some reason, they allow you to see the folders of music and pictures when you're in ps3 video folder. same goes for when you're in music folder and see the others...etc. sorry sounds so confusing.
