I don't game very much. The only things will be sports games. I currently have a 32 Sharp, but want to upgrade to a 50"+ LCD or RPTV with 1080p. I mainly want the PS3 for Blu-Ray. How is the blu-ray player? Is it necessary to upgrade to a 1080p? Any others suggestions would be appreciated!!

The ps3 is a excellent blu-ray player. You do not need to upgrade to a 1080p display.
I myself, and most people here are running 1080I and 720p and think the picture quality is great. It all has to do with your viewing distance to your tv for 1080p to make a difference. Is your sharp a 1080i or 720p display?

Exactly. I'm a big gamer - HUGE Final Fantasy fan, stoked for R&C, MGS4, DMC4, GTAIV - but I still would say I use my PS3 more for media (like Blu-Ray and media on the HDD).

i like movies and games. despite the PS3 having a mediocre library thus far, i use my PS3 for games and movies pretty evenly. in the long run, ill probably use it more for games.

but yeah, the PS3 is an excellent blu-ray player, upscaling DVD player, and eventually, gaming machine as well. it really is a great machine. if you game at all and you're looking for a blu-ray player, i think the ps3 is a no brainer. there are plenty of games coming out in the near and distant future that appeal to all crowds.
