What do you have your G90 set at for screen type?

The option for this is in the Service Setting 1 menu.

What is the difference among the two choices? What is the G90 actually doing when choosing one choice over the other?

When I choose Bead the image seems to brighten up by a very large margin vs the Mat option.

Currently my brightness is at 52 and my contrast at 60 and I am using a Stewart Studiotek 130.

You should be using the matte setting with the Studiotek 130. Glass beaded screens can only be used with a floor mounted projector. The difference is very slight anyway, but when set to Glass Beaded, the basic color and black balance settings are slightly different. It's supposed to make up for the slight color shift on glass beaded (and maybe other high gain type) screens.

After my initial setup I realized that I had been running with the Bead screen type selected, but in fact have a matte white screen. When I switched to the other type and re-setup the bias and gain in that mode I didnt notice anything looked really any different (it did before I adjusted it, but after adjustment it looked the same). I went back and checked, and miraculously the bias/gain settings I just arrived at for the Matte screen type were the same as the values I had previously set for the Bead type. Comparing greyscale and color bars between the two were indistinguishable.

I think they are really just different memory settings that have default values intended for each type. I dont think they make the projecor operate any differently, and once adjusted it doesnt really matter which mode you use.

:p :p Isn't that what I said? They have two different "slightly" different Gain and Bias (color balance and black) settings. :) It has a specific difference that is stated in the service manual that is set when adjusting the color temps when you replace the tubes. What happens is that people adjust the gain and bias settings WITHOUT noting whcih screen setting is set and loose the whole adjustment, so you no longer see any difference.

Thanks for the response guys.

I am currently using the matte option but once one does a proper gray scale calibration using the bias/gains, based on the responses above, it appears that there will be no difference anyways.
