Does anyone else hope that Universal will bring out some of their classics onto HD DVD by October? I know that I'd personally love to see Frankenstein and Dracula. It would be a perfect time to release them. They just better take extra care with these releases and price them no higher than $19.99.

Catalog titles haven't been selling well, and it would be a crying shame if Universal rushed out any classics during this year while they are still poorly encoding HD DVDs to get their "HD DVD titles available" numbers up.

Absolutely, but wait until '08
I want Universal to nail the PQ and AQ on Knocked Up, Evan Almighty, American Gangster, The Bourne Ultimatum, and all other '07 theater releases first... and maybe some classic catalogs like Jurassic Park and E.T. Then the Universal Horror classics should come sometime in '08.

What Universal HD DVDs are poorly encoded? I think there would be absolutely zero chance that Frankenstein and Dracula would be poorly encoded. I'd be worried about the master that is used. But then again, I'd be worried about the master used for the release of any movie that more than a few years old.

Nothing wrong with the encode. It's the master that they f---ed up. They use the same master from their DVD releases (Mystery Men, for example).

This has been a discussion in a number of other threads in the past. Here's one of them

Rewind to January 2006, Universal included the original Frankenstein and Dracula films in their list of HD DVD releases for 2006. As we all know, they never were brought to life, so to speak. I would hope that Universal hasn't completely forgotten about these and that they will in fact be released in the near future. These were promised films which helped convince me to buy an HD DVD player. It sucks that I'm still waiting for them. I'd also be thrilled to buy HD DVDs of Bride Of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, and The Invisible Man.
