I was wondering if there are any owners of one of the 700U models that have some advice on settings they would like to share. I am about to finish the break in period. I have messed around with avia a little with this tv but had some issues. First off on the black level tests I could not get the moving black lines to appear until the brightness was at 15. It also would not gradually appear it would just drastically appear. Second I was wondering if everyone recommends using custom or using cinema as their base starting point. Here are my current settings:
Mode: custom
Picture: +9
Brightness: +8
Color: -3
Tint: left 3
Sharpness: -30
Temp: warm
black level: light
everything else essentially off

I'd be interested to see some other users settings as well. My 50" 700U is less than 24 hours old, so it's still in the break-in stage but it'd be awesome to have a "one-stop-shop" for settings for this amazing plasma.
During your break in make sure to drop the picture setting to atleast 0 or midpoint. I also noticed that the cinema setting of 0 is quite a bit lower than the custom setting of 0. I was also wondering if the CATS setting is basically just a power save mode like on many other brands. It seems to act the same way as the Pioneer save 2 and has about the same effect. I previously had the Pioneer 4270 for about 3 weeks prior to getting this set. The shadow detail is much better on this set IMO.

I find the Panny to have just a touch sharper picture too, and I prefer that. I love the Pioneers but the Panasonic won me over! What do you display on your tv using these settings, I need some good settings that will look universally good for all my devices, since everything is connected thru my receiver and into HDMI 1.
These are just my basic dvd settings. I have actually adjusted them just a little bit also. Here are the new settings.
Custom
+10
+6 or +7
-3
-1 or -2
-30
all others still the same

Do any Panasonic plasma owners notice the "double-image" effect from the internal reflections of the panels? (You can see the image on the front of the panel and if you are on an angle you can notice a faint copy of the image about 1/2 inch behind it)
Can adjusting the TV settings remove this unwanted effect?

I've had the 50" 700u for less than a week - incredible picture.
And, yes the break-in DVD has been running while we're not watching programming.
Originally from my eye, the best settings were +23 picture, +7 brightness, +3 color, 0 tint, 0 sharpness.
Ran the DVE calibration disc last night. It was surprising.
Following the DVE instructions the picture setting came way down (+12) and the brightness went way up (+24) . All the other settings are near 0.
For sports it just didn't look right. After adjusting some more, both the picture and brightness are set at +17.

I only notice it when looking at the TV from an extreme angle, say when walking by it into the room, but not during any regular viewing. I don't believe you can eliminate it.

That double image effect is usually only noticable during times of high contrast images. light white text on a black background, or similar. you cant get rid of it, but if you're watching a normal show or something it's hard to even notice. Its' just the reflection of the inside of the glass. I guess the copy is the image that is in the forefront. I was sort of weirded out by it at first too.

guys...Im surprised I had to dig this deep to find a 700U settings thread...why nothing OFFICIAL like the thousands of posts in the PZ77 threads?
anyways...Im a new 700U owner and would like to rock this puppy out...how long should I run the TV with a full screen picture to break it in with all the settings at 0 ?
thanks
