i have $1600 to spend on a TV, preferably 40"+ size. sports is the main reason for the purchase of this TV. since it's sports that i'm watching i'm worried about motion blur. my friend has a Hitachi HD RPTV and motion blur shows up pretty bad.

which technology (LCD, DLP, etc) will give me the best picture for sports?

any brands or model number will also be appreciated......thanks for your time!

You need to be more specific. You can do a lot with $1600. I am more interested in size and prefer RPCRT. FIgure out first what format, size and features you want.

Sports looks amazing on my newly purchased used 3 year old Mits WS-73615 that payed $1600 for a couple weeks ago.

Friend has a 3 year old 61" Mits DLP for $1500, including stand.

Lots of great buys on used HDTVs out there.

it can't be an old HD RPTV...it has to be one of those new fangled thin TV's. actually this TV is for a friend, he doesn't have internet access so i'm helping him out.

i guess the main question i'm asking her is which format (LCD, DLP, PLASMA) shows less motion blur artifacts. since he'll be watching sports there will be a lot of fast movement on the screen.

You're still not saying enough.

Plasma or rear projection for your budget will probably show the least motion blur. I have a 8ms LCD in my bedroom. It ghosted pretty badly during the NBA finals. (OTA broadcast.)

If you're only talking 40/42", you can consider a 720P plasma or LCD. Rear projection really doesn't go below 50" anymore. 1080P flat panels will cost more than your budget, plus 1080P is a waste below 50 (really 60) inches.

Modern DLP's don't ghost or show motion blur--period. I have a 57" 2007 Mitsubishi DLP. I watch sports OTA and via satellite. Sometimes, I play video games as well as watch high definition optical discs. I get zero motion blur--period!

IMHO, plasmas give the best picture (short of CRT's). (Your buddy's budget is close to the price of the 720P 50" Pioneer.) However, this is the RPTV forum. Inch for inch, the rear projection models (DLP, LCos) give you the best for your buck.

There's LCD projection, LCD flat-screen, DLP projection, LCoS projection, and plasma. Cheaper LCD flat-screens have slower refresh rates, most of these other technologies are pretty good at sports. My JVC LCoS is fine.

Flat-screen sets (LCD and plasma) under $1600 are only available in smaller sizes, but you can get a rear-projection set with any of the technologies in this price range up to 60 inches. Even with the cost of lamp replacement they're still the best bang for the big screen buck.

pictures are subjective to preference. Right now, I am pretty close to set on a 1080p sony SXRD A2000/2020 HDTV. I think they have a great picture and they have a scarce amount of problems. Plus, they are selling pretty cheap right now and may even drop a lil more when the A3000s hit stores. A 50 inch version is very easily found for under 1600 before extended warranty and stand and other misc accessories. You can probably find a 55 inch and in a couple places even a 60 inch for 1600.
Panosonic plasmas are selling really cheap and under 1600 pretty easily. These are mainly the 50 inch PX60, PX75, PX77, PX600 models although I have seen a 58 inch PX600 selling for under 1600(before shipping). These are 720p/1080i sets though if that matters.

See if you can still find one of the older model Panasonic plasmas....the TH-50px60u or TH-50px600u. They usually are available around 1600 bucks. 50 inches of stunning picture quality!

I think tigerdirect has the TH-50px600u for 1450.

There's also the JVC LCoS 55 & 60" models floating around out there for under $1500 on the net.
