As part of my basement remodel/HT construction, I have walled off and added a door to a garage/workshop room. In the center of the garage there is a drain within the concrete. I guess that now that the area is sealed off, an odor emanating from the drain is more noticeable. The smell is not unbearable, but it is definitely noticeable. I have added water frequently to make sure the P trap is full, but this has not made much of a difference (maybe even worse?).

There appears to be a clean-out down stream from the drain. It is outside of the garage in the driveway. I don't know if this would help in any way.

Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?

1)I would start with pouring a couple of gallons of bleach down the drain. let sit for an hour then stick a hose in and flush. Get the scented version of bleach. If it improves I might do it a couple of times on successive days.

2)I would get a heavy rubber door mat and just put over the drain for everyday purposes.

thats a big drain, maybe 4"???? how much water are you pouring.....i would start with a 5 gallon bucket full to make sure that trap is filled.

if you dont plan on using that drain just cap it., if you still have a smell after that then you have a broken pipe.....
