Just confirmed Best Buy is selling the LG combo player and giving you 10 free Blu-rays of your choice.

I live in OH.

I think the deal actually lets you pick 10 movies of your choice mix and matching Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs.

IMO LG needs to price drop this player already as you can now get a Blu-Ray player for $499 and an HD-DVD for $299 (even cheaper if you go online). That's $800 vs the $1200 of this LG unit. Plus you get 5 free blu-rays and 5 free hd-dvds by mail and another 5 bundled blu-rays if you pick the panasonic.

and this player isn't compliant with either format..$500 is reasonable given its features and functionality

yeah, even with a the bazillion movies they give you with this deal the price is ridiculous given the current HD-DVD and BD prices. Particularly when you look at the fact the LG doesn't support all the extra features on HD-DVD.

All the movies in the world doesn't make this deal worth it. Better off buying 2 players or wait and check out Sammy's Duo player this fall.

200 movies :D

Buy the player, get the movies, use player as paperweight and use a real HD DVD or Blu-Ray player for the movies

I'm curious to know how many of these players LG actually managed to sell. I mean, it doesn't seem to make much sense to me. The only good thing about this player is it comes in 1 box, instead of having 2 boxes for 2 separate players. But you can get 2 players that are much better than this one for less money, so...

I would be curious to know that as well. I bought one because I felt it was worth every penny to have just one player to deal with.

I agree with this although I definately see the appeal of a single player. I would certainly prefer a single box solution. But with whats out today and what's rumoured to come, you have to give up alot of features in the dual player(s).

You can't argue with the point that a better BR and a better HD player currently cost less than the LG dual player. Makes no sense to me...

If this reached $500 I'd buy it. For $1,200 (!), PASS!

Looks like the price of the player has been reduced by $200 at Best Buy. That's not a sale price either. They've even got them in stock locally, which is unusual.

So they are $999.99?

I can still get an A2 and a BDP300 for $800.

I can NOT justify buying this player. Even at a great price. With no support of HDI for HD-DVD. limited support for HD-DVD's audio formats. Lack of HDMI 1.3. Lack of BD-j. This player lacks soo many features. Or, am I wrong. I haven't read up on it lately.
Have they released any firmware that takes care of these issues?

If interested i do see these players available for under $700 NIB on E-bay. Of course if you lose out on the free movies (value of $200 or so) it still isn't a very good deal...but an option none the less.
I thought about getting one of these when they hit 500-600 but not if it is true that they are skimmed down models of HD/BD that don't fully support content of either...Is that true as posted above??
