42 inch plasma. http://www.vizio.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=28
37 inch LCD . http://www.vizio.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=16
This isn't the most official response but the Vizio VP 42" Plasma gets really great reviews. Not just from a price standpoint but from a quality standpoint.
You might have to ask yourself what you're going to be doing with it and also whether or not you've got any little ones running around. Fingerprints wipe off a lot easier from the glass screen on the plasma as opposed to the LCD display.
I'm in the same boat right now, I own the Vizio VW37L and I'm getting ready to take it back to the store because of a bright pixel. I'm going to get my money back and go and buy the VP42.
Good luck

mike171979 07-24-07, 05:16 PM Why not buy the 42" Vizio LCD from Sam's Club for <$900.

I'm with Mikey on this one. I just took back my VW37L to Walmart and went out an hour later and bought the VX37L from Sams. I can tell you that the VX is in fact a better TV but after seeing the 42" in action I think I want it. I'm going to give the 37" a month or so and I might just upgrade before football season gets here. Who knows...
PS The Sams price is less than $900. Sorry mods if this breaks the price agreement... I just though I couldn't give exact numbers.
Sniperman 07-30-07, 05:33 PM yeah had u read the forums a lil more u woulve known to stay away from walmart lol.
just checked samsclub website and no avail in store, will still visit a sams to check. if not i might jsut go with the 3 from costco or the 42 lcd from cc for $974 inc taxes, which isnt too bad.

I actually studied the boards pretty hard but WalMart is 5 miles away as opposed to Sams being 50. Now I'm pretty happy with the VX but I'm still on the lookout. :)
Sniperman 08-08-07, 09:16 AM hehe ok..
for anyone interested here is a clip of the sams vizio 42 lcd playing 1080p content.

Walmart's Vizio VW37L is inferior to the VX37L, but posts on this forum indicate that Walmart's 42'' VW42L is the same as the VX42L. Just to make things more confusing. :)
Sniperman 08-08-07, 09:56 AM lol great.
on a side note, i think ive lost my backlight option lol, i cant seem to find it, its like it dissapeared, i think i need glasses.
Plasmas will buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I went through 3 VP42, all buzz. Then I did some research and pep are saying doesn't matter what brand, all plasmas buzz.

Deathwish238 09-08-07, 05:21 PM I believe Vizios use Panasonic glass with their plasmas. They're quite good for the money...although for a little more you could just get a Panasonic.
Yes all plasma buzz...but generally you can't hear it unelss you're very very close. I've never heard any buzzing on my Kuro
shaftnjc 09-18-07, 01:32 PM The buzz becomes amplified as it reflects off the (typically hollow-ish sheetrock) wall behind the TV. I found that putting something dampening like a piece of foam or who-knows-what will make the buzzing sound seem less loud.
