Hi guys im in the market for a new TV. I recently purchased a new home and have moved out of the parents house where I had purchased a Samsung HLR5667 model a few years ago. My plans are to sell them this tv and upgrade to 1080p. Ive basically narrowed it down to DLP and LCD but here is where I need help. It seems new LCD tvs are having issues across the board and my concern for gaming on DLP has me at a crossroad.

Here are the things im looking for in a new set.

1. (obviously) good picture
2. no noticable gaming lag. I do a lot of gaming and this is really the major reason why im selling my current HLR5667 set to the parents as it has no gaming mode and games like guitar hero are unplayable.
3. Great response time. another thing i noticed in the previous DLP is it had issues with fast motion. I would get a blur effect (hard to describe but not ghosting) when there was fast movement, typically its minor, as if the color wheel couldnt keep up. It was most noticeable when the grammies came up one year and during a performance a strobe light started going off. the whole screen when completely blurry until the strobe light went off.
4. size 50-56"

one novice question to clarify something for me - Does the LED DLP sets remove the need for replacing bulbs every few years ?

on the LCD side it seems the olevia 747i is leading the pack as it seems to have the least amount of issues that ive found. The only problem is no store sells this and i would have to purchase sight unseen which makes me very nervous.

I can't make a recommendation in regard to gaming as I don't use my DLP for that. I can say that I watch a lot of sports and the only time I've noticed some blurring was watching tennis. The ball seems to have a tail on it. I'd take a DVD with lots of action/movement with you to the stores and play it on the TVs you're considering.

The new LED DLPs don't need bulb changes. They have an estimated life of 20,000 hours vs about 6,000 for a bulb.

I have a Toshiba 65" DLP that I bought for $1600 and I'm very happy with it.

Good luck.

Obviously, you need a Samsung LED driven DLP. The older models of that technology can be had for reasonable prices. You just need to do a Web search, look at Amazon and price grabber, etc.
