I purchased a Toshiba 62MX196 DLP television in March of 2007 and I am quite
satisfied with the picture, however there has been one ongoing problem from the
start. I have the TV hooked up to a Direct Tv H20 high definition receiver via
HDMI cable. I do not have the television setup for fast lamp turn on.
Everytime I turn the television off I have to unplug the TV in order to have the
lamp come back on for a picture.
I have called Toshiba and they have told me that you must turn on and off
your television with a certain protocal in order to prevent this from occuring.
The protocal they instructed me with was when turning off, I must first turn of
satellite box then television. When turning on, I must turn on television first, then
satlellite box. Bottom line has been that no matter what protocal I use, I always
have to unplug the television before I can get the lamp to come on.
Has anyone else experianced this? I am too old to bend down and crawl
behind television to unplug it each time. (please don't tell me to exercise more,
I bought the TV to exercise less)
Any suggestions?

Where is the AC power cord of the TV plugged into?

I have the AC power cord plugged into a "mid-range" ($40.00) surge protector
from Radio Shack.
Could there be some incompatability between the satellite box and the television?
I unplugged the HDMI cable from the back of the television tonight whent the TV was on
& then reconnected it. The picture appeared. (picture was not visible before unplugging
HDMI cable.

You may want to plug the set directly into the wall socket your surge protector may be an issue?

I have a 56HM195 with the H 20 Direct TV box and a 65HM167 with the HR-20 DVR and it doesn't matter which I turn on or off or off first. The 56HM195 does not have a "FAST" option but the 65HM167 does. If I remember correctly, I think it was Direct TV that suggested that the Box be on first before the TV is started but I have done it in both ways with no issues on either TV. I would contact Direct TV and also push Toshiba on this.
