View Full Version : Benefit of using WMP11 Media Server with the DSM-520 for .wav files

Most of my audio files are in the uncompressed .wav format. The only disadvantage has been not being able to have the metadata displayed on the DSM-520 "now playing" screen because the .wav format doesn't allow saving metadata (titles, artists, album names, dates, or album art) with the file.

But now, WMP11 is takes the metadata you input into the library for .wav files and stores it in its database file (.wmdb). So now when WMP11 serves the media to the DSM-520, it provides the saved metadata and album art associated with the .wav file to the DSM-520 which uses it for its “now playing” screen. That is the first time I have seen this feature work with .wav files. The only downside I see is the portability of that huge wmdb file. Will the metadata transfer well to a new PC when I upgrade? By then, hopefully this will all be solved.
