Hey AVSers, it's been a while since I've posted but I need some sage advice...

My employer needs to purchase a new projector and we/they would like to transition into the HD arena if at all possible.

We're using/abusing an Epson EMP-53 which is barely up to the task anymore; we use it in a fairly large gym to fill a screen approx 10ft on its bottom edge. The output is a bit dark, but I suppose it is adequate. We primarily use a laptop to project song lyrics and s-video outs on a DVD player for movies, however we're looking to transition to an BluRay or HD-DVD as we replace the projector.

So, on that note, is there anything on/hitting the market that fits our needs in the sub $3,000 price range? I don't know if our needs make projector selection any different from what would be applicable in a home theater. Are we being unrealistic with the price range?

Thanks!
-----Nate

Bump! I could really use some advice on this one.

Is the panasonic ax100u a good fit? It seems to have the most light output of the projectors in our range.

It's a nice projector, although there have been some quality control problems. The mitsubishi HD1000 and epson powerlite 400 are less expensive and nearly as bright in real world testing.
