View Full Version : Sony VPL-V100 Fan Broken!! Stan-Lee 07-15-07, 10:14 PM I have not had my projector for 1 year yet and the fan stopped working. I am shut down. Anyone had this problem? Stan-Lee 07-16-07, 08:16 AM Are you sure this is the correct place to announce this? You should call the Pentagon...this should definitely qualify to invade Japan. What is the problem? I am just inquiring to see if this is a common problem. mark haflich 07-16-07, 07:36 PM No problem. Tryg, who is not the most diplomatic of folks even on a good day, is trying to say call Sony and they will service it. You know this but I suppose you are curious to see if others have had this failure mode. Not that this info would be of any use to other than Sony who probably keeps a log of failure modes and has the info all ready. I doubt the fan is burnt out, perhaps the thermostat on the circuit which supplies power to the fan. I'm sure the fix will be easy, quick, and painless. Trust me, Tryg feels your pain. If he wasn't in such pain he'd probably act nicer. :) BTW. If Alan knew Tryg was acting like this the only thing that would stop Alan for kicking Tryg in the ass would be a fear of losing his foot. :) Stan-Lee 07-16-07, 08:52 PM I guess I should not post questions like that - I'm new to the forum. I did not know that inquiries of that type are not accepted that well. Anyway, I had already contacted Sony by mid-day today. Their phone warranty service is frightfully slow. I have to send the projector to Laredo, Texas for repair. Then, I will sell it once it's all fixed and certified. I'm buying the new JVC RS1 tomorrow, locally. mark haflich 07-16-07, 09:05 PM Once again, no problem posting a question like that. You did nothing wrong. Welcome. Believe me, we are all glad to have you here. Sending to Laredo is normal. There is no other option. You should get it back quickly. Sony just lowered the price on new remaining VPL-VSW50s. The new MSRP is about $4000. If you can get $3K for yours grab it. Stan-Lee 07-16-07, 10:06 PM Cool. Thanks for the tip/info. I asked sony if the fan problem was common but they would not confirm nor deny. mark haflich 07-16-07, 10:21 PM Disregard my comment re tgrabbing $3K for the 50, because you have a 100, not a 50.. I'm getting tired. I sold about 50 VPL-100 and to my knowledge no fan problems. Quite a few bulb and power supply probems though. i don't know what a used 100 would fetch. With a new bulb, maybe $4 to 5K? Stan-Lee 07-27-07, 12:34 AM Sony repaired my projector and sent it back UPS next day. That was the fastest service ever. They had it for 2.5-3 days. They replaced a motor (part#883586021) and put in a brand new lamp (part#LMPH400)! All no charge/under warranty. It is a brand new projector with no hours on the lamp. Now, I need to sell it to help pay for my new JVC RS1. Stan-Lee 07-31-07, 10:44 PM Wow, it sold real fast. I priced it low to sell ($5k) though. Thanks for the support/feedback. |
