I haven't seen a thread devoted to this, so forgive me if I just missed it, but does anyone know how the '1500 stacks up to the 1000? The former replaces the latter and looks to be close to identical. Given the $100 price diff, does it seem there's a legimate reason to go with the newer one? Does it add anything in the way of performance or features that justifies chosing it over the 1000?

I'd spend the extra $$$ and get the HC1500...

I had the same dilemma. Was also thinking of getting the the HC1500 over the HD1000U. Couldn't figure out what the difference was, other than 100 more lumens. I emailed Evan over at PC (who did the review of both units), talked to Mitsu tech support, talked to ProjectorPeople, compared the literature of both, and posted the same question here about 2 weeks ago. As far as I or anyone else could tell, they are the same except for the 100 more lumens from the same bulb. Same processing & everything. Since there are some discounts going on for the HD1000U & not for the HC1500, I decided on the former & saved about $150.

Edit: By the way, the HD1000U looks great.

$100-150 for 100 lumens? No thanks!

HC1500u (according to PJCentral) does NOT have any keystone adjustment

I think that's just a typo on PJC's part. Look at the manul, page 18, the HC1500 clearly does have digital keystone adjustments for both H and V.

Are we sure there is nothing fundamentally different between the projectors? Why would Mitsu put out a replacement if they really didn't do anything different... just to sucker you into buying a whole new projector?

For what it's worth:

Looking through the owner's manual for both projectors reveals a difference in the menu structure for one item:

The HD1000U has a menu function under "Image" that is called "Screen Size"
Apparently this can be set to "16:9" or "CINEMA SCOPE(2.35:1)".

The manual for the HC1500 doesn't show this menu feature!

I don't have either projector so I don't know how significant the difference is.
