O.K., so I am a LONG time mac user and am experimenting with using a mini in the HT. I've tried FrontROW, xHub, MediaCentral, iTheater and they all work great, except non can play hd res files well. Is anyone else seeing this? I talking about 1080/720 files in ts, mpg, mkv, h264, etc.. format. I'm beginning to think quicktime needs some work on this area of it's architecture. It is just so frustrating because VLC plays everything SO well.
fyi., I am using a core duo 1.66mhz mini.
Just curious and looking for some feedback from other users.
Thanks,
Scott

I've only used Front Row, but it plays my downloaded BBC sampler HD movies just fine. It also plays (non-HD) movies that I've made myself from my camcorder, or bought from the iTunes Store just fine. Of course, some people are much more sensitive to glitches and anomalies than others, so I might be not seeing, or ignoring, something that's driving you up the wall.

If your talking about quicktime - It recently started having problems with my 720p @60 fps shows lately. It didn't used to have a problem - but now - it won't play them back at full frame rate on my dual core mini either. ( all of them play FINE in VLC )
I totally think something got messed up a couple versions ago in QT - and HD playback is suffering... <grrr>

i just found recently that opening the mkv in quicktime (using perian 1.0 or later) and allowing time for it to load 100%. Then save the file as a reference movie (around 4mb). Now media central and other media apps will play this file without any glitches or load problems.
this should work for other HD file types too...but not 100% sure on that.
