View Full Version : Suggestions on replacing my Pearl? Size matters!

Ok. I just parted with my Pearl. Unfortunately, I am moving into a house with fewer HT options and will no longer have a dedicated room. Up until yesterday I was planning on just installing a 70" XBR when I realized that with the right projector, I could make a FP system possible. I absolutely loved the Pearl for it's blacks, lens control, silentness, and problem free operation (compared to previous Optomas). Unfortunately, at over 25 lbs, and far to big to be portable, it is not an option for me. I will likely put it on the coffee table or in an armoire.

Ultimately, what matters most to me are the following:

1.Small size and weight which will exclude JVC and the Pearl

2.Relatively quiet operation

3.Lens shifting (manual will likely have to do) and flexible throw.

4.Good or great blacks

5.Less screen door than my prior HS51.

Is there such an option? Maybe something coming soon?

That has been my thinking. I like the thought of improved sharpness and small size. How is the black level though? My last LCD was decent (HS51) prior to that the AE700 Panasonic was not so good.

If we are talking about the same machine, then i'd worry a bit, this guy is usually neurosurgically accurate:

Epson 1080. Black level is good and in low lamp its very quiet and plenty bright for my 46"x109" screen.
