Hey guys, i have just installed my Pj this weekend. it is a Infocus sp4800. no its not top of the line, but it was really cheap.

i ran a brand new 50' component cable from Monoprice. it is connected using a vgato component adapter. i am using a switcher that has:
1. digital cable box
2. Playstation 2
3. dvd player

the problem is i am not getting any signal (blue screen) from my PS2 or my old (2yrs) dvd player. my digital cable works fine. its not the new comp cable or the switcher, i can change the order of the way everything is connected and its still the same result. i have also taken my old dvd player and connected straight to the PJ w/ a 6' comp cable, still the same.

both the PS2 and old dvd player work fine on my RCA 35" tv hooked up through component.

now i borrowed a $37 Magnavox dvd player from my neice and it works perfectly. i went to Circuit City and Bestbuy and they had no explanation. i did some reading on Projector Central. it said there is a difference in component but it seems like the 4800 would be ok w/ that signal.i double checked w/ Infocus support and the 4800 accepts 480i, 480p.

so what gives? i am so frustrated. i am sure there is some signal issues that are over my head and i am hoping you guys can help.

sorry this is so long, please help, i am going crazy!

I had this same problem - the Infocus won't display 480i through component and the PS2 and probably dvd player aren't doing progressive. I have to run my Ps2 through S-video and the same with the Wii since some games don't do 480P

yeah i was planning on using s-video as a backup plan. but i would really like to use component, the picture is so much better and i would need to run a s-video cable to the PJ.

anyone else?

Well, just to verify veekay's info...If you have the PSTwo, you can set it to output DVD's in 480p. Then see if it works on your pj. If it does, you know the problem. Fixing it is another issue completely. You'll need to find a device that will convert to 480p. Or just settle for s-video.

Considering the use of the Faroudja processing I don't think you're going to notice any difference with the PS2 anyway - not like things are going to look much better jumping to 480P. The DVD player on the other hand you can fix easy enough since they are so cheap. I didn't even know about this until recently thanks to the Wii and think it is a little silly. You can also buy the svideo to component adapter that they sell, but that will still just output the 480P as 480i, though you can use component cables (two sets).

i want to buy a new dvd player under $75. what do i need look for? as far signaling, so that wont run into display problems like i am having now w/ my old dvd player and my PS2?

Well, the Wii can do 480p once set, but some games won't run at 480p and only will do 480i (Found this out when trying to play Trauma Center). It is going to be the same with anything that can't handle 480p at all times.

As for DVD player, I bought the DVP5982 from Amazon - it can upscale to 1080p so it should be pretty future proof. Also comes in below $75.
