Do you knowledgeable people here think that the extra ~$500 for the HD72 is worth it or should I just get the HD70.

If it's between the two Optomas, I would save the cash and get the HD70. While the HD72 is marginally better, it's certainly not $500 better.

You should also look at the Mitsubishi HD1000U. People who have seen both seem to prefer the Mits over the Optoma. It also lists at $1000, so it's price competitive with the HD70. Either way, I don't think you can go wrong.
