Gee whiz...when is someone going to record Pictures in SACD. Everything out there is remastered stuff. Any hints from AVS contributors?

Two on Naxos:
One with Kuchar of the Ravel orchestration and the other with Serebrier of the Stokowski orchestration.

HERE (http://www.elusivedisc.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RCASAM61394) is an old, but high-quality, recording of it on a new format.

I was going to mention this SACD, but I think the OP was a new recording.

Kal, thanks for the info. I went ahead and ordered the SACD version of Kuchar of the Ravel orchestration.

You're right...I was looking for new recordings on SACD. I already have plenty older recordings on CD which is fine for me.

thanks! Mark

Pictures at an Exhibition - Leonard Slatkin - St. Loius Symphony, on Mobile Fidelitys SACD/HYBRID with its GAIN 2 recording process should work fine. $24.99 at musicdirect.com.

Hope that helps. They also have what you already ordered. I guess I`m a little late.

Kal...Thank you!

I just received and listened to the Kuchar recording. Awesome! The soundstage was excellent. WOW! What a workout my subs received (I have two). No distortion...just plain old thunder. Some really good BOOMs. This is an excellent SACD recording (considering it was recorded in 2001...just as SACD was getting really in gear). I am very impressed. Thanks again for letting me know about it.

Thank God. For a moment, I thought you guys were talking about the Emerson, Lake & Palmer album.

Love this Masterpiece.
Just order this.
Cant wait to hear how it sound with uncompressed 5.1 orchestral performance.
Also want to compare with Jero's "Pictures at an Exhibition" (http://www.surroundmagic.com/Default.aspx?TabID=134&TabIDOrig=36&productID=196&categoryid=31&langID=0&CurrPage=1&Search=&SearchCurrPage=1) virtual orchestration in DTSES 6.1 that was a real sensation for me.

You say that like it's a bad thing... ;)

Or, heaven forbid, the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble version, or the Tomita electronic version, or the Jean Gilleau pipe organ version (got 'em all, including ELP). I love how Pictures is so adaptable. There may well be a Harmonicats version. I'm waiting on a Bluegrass version. :)
