Just got the home 1080....looks amazing once I got it all dialed in, picture is wonderful.....but one question......it does emit a rather high pitched whine....it's not excessively loud, but is noticeable. I've read several threads about the same sound, but it's hard to say if it's the same thing.

For all the 1080 owners, do you think that this is the sound of the normal bulb/electronics or should it be silent (with the exception of the fan which is barely audible)?

I had the same problem, primarily in low lamp mode. I had the lamp changed and the whine was gone. The tech told me the bulb was defective, and it should most certainly be silent. (except for the fan) However this new lamp has more colour uniformity problems. I hoped it would go away, and yours might. You've got two years of solid warranty so maybe keep using it and see what happens. If it drives you nuts, turn up the volume a bit. That made it less bothersome for me.
