I have seen a few accusations against Epson that they don't deliver on their rebate promises, or may give you a hard time.

Who has received, who has not, how long have you waited, etc? Am considering the 400 but this pj isn't good enough to drop an extra $500 on by missing out on the rebate for some caprice on the part of Epson.

I haven't heard one way or another about the rebates, but as far as their customer service record goes, I only hear good things. I would be surprised to learn that they try to short-change customers on their rebates.

Someone else mentioned sending in your rebate as certified mail just in case they say they never (or actually don't) received it. Not a bad idea since this is a bit more than a couple bucks.

I haven't heard of anyone having a problem. I just sent mine in last week and it doesn't yet show on the website when I search for it. Reading the FAQ's though it states to allow mail time and 10 days before I could expect for it to show. It also states that rebates can take up to eight weeks to be processed and mailed but that they could come sooner.

I don't really let rebates help determine my purchasing decision b/c I know I can't rely on receiving it. I haven't heard any complaints about Epson not honoring the rebate though. It does however take 8 weeks at least from what I've heard.

Here's a great article from ConsumerAffairs.com about rebates and how to make sure you don't get scammed:

I mailed mine 27 days ago. The web site still reports it as not received. This is not giving me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Note to self: Do not buy anything with a substantial rebate. It is not worth the aggravation.

OP here... this does not look good. So far, not one AVS member has reported actually receiving said rebate. Don't know how long it has been around though.

I recently purchased an HP laptop from Office Depot and was dismayed to see they are on the list of companies who have played fast and loose with rebates before (from that linked article). The laptop carries a $200 rebate and I will be mailing it off this week.

I would expand Paladyr's comment and say that if there is a substantial rebate and it is that rebate which persuades you to buy a given product over another one, don't do it.

So far, unless some respond positively to my question, the Epson is off my radar.

If you follow the indtructions you no doubt will receive your rebate. If you want the assurance then send everything by certified mail! I'm not worried about receiving mine, but I would definitely be P.O.ed if I didn't!

I mailed mine in the beginning of June and just received it ($300) on the HC1080. I also got an email a couple of weeks ago saying they received it and it was being processed.

This is very interesting. I've been interested in this projector (epson 400) but have been able to put off buying it since my room isn't ready yet. I know the current rebate expires 7/30/07, and i'm guessing that they'll just keep extending it afterwords. I highly doubt it, but would love it if they'd just start telling it for the new price sans rebate after this month.

I was just reading over the Epson rebate form for the 1080 and it said to send in a copy of the UPC code AND a serial number label. I don't recall there being a serial number label on the box. Did anyone here see one and send it in along with the UPC?

I had typed up my form (real bad handwriting), before I sent in everything I re-read the instructions in their entirety and did notice that it said to send along with a copy of the UPC the serial number label. My box for the 400 had two serial number labels which easily pealed off and I applied right next to the serial number that I had already typed.

Hopefully this wont be an issue for you as they probably trying to ensure that they get the correct serial number.

I'm hoping to get an email from them once they recieve and process like bsntn99. I have bought things before with substatial rebates and have always recieved them as long at they were sent in correctly. The one time I had a problem was for the wrong UPC from the box, it had two different ones go figure. They usually give you another 30 days to send it in as a correction.

Epson definately seems on the up and up, I read through the rebate FAQ's and they seem committed to their offers.

Based on the instructions I had, I only photocopied the box UPC with the serial number by placing the box on my scanner to copy the pertinent area and then sent this along with the form and a copy of my sales invoice. Just those 3 items. I purchased 5/25, so they may have changed the instructions since then.

I removed the UPC portion of the box, but there's no serial number on that part of the package. Did you purchase a Cinema 1080? If so, are you sure there was a serial number located on the box?

The rebate has only been out since June 1. If you expect the majority of people to have received theirs by now, you have a lot to learn about rebates. Fill it out correctly, make copies, and send it by certified mail and you will get it every time. Companies bank on people being too lazy and/or careless. Filling out rebates sucks, but the Epson 400 for ~ $900 is a steal.

I just sent mine in the other day and the UPC had two serial number labels right next to it on the box. I just cut out that portion of the box and threw it on the copy machine. I sent in a copy of the UPC and serial #. I did not read the instructions to mean that i needed to actualy peel the S/N label off and put on a paper to be sent in with the rebate form. My instructions say to include, "2) a copy of the UPC code and serial number label from the product box." I guess that sounded like a copy of BOTH items to me. Hopefully I'm not sunk on this. I do believe that Epson will ship out the rebates. Its just a little early for most. Many people in the official Epson 400 thread said that they have received theirs.

My UPC label just had the UPC number and product number on it. There was no serial number. Are you sure your box had a serial number?

I just sent my rebate in the other day via certified mail with a return receipt.

The only trouble I have had with a rebate is for a harmony remote. I ordered the 880 before the rebate ended. However, it was on backorder and took a few days to ship; by that thime the rebate had ended. I sent in the invoice with the actual purchase date highlighted and circled. After ~2 months I got a post card saying that the rebate had been denied since it was purchased outside the timeframe. I called the customer service number and explained the situation, they fixed it within a few minutes and I receveid the rebate about 3 weeks later.

There is a serial number on the PJ itself, use that to verify that the box label has the correct number.

My HC1080 box has 2 stickers on it right next to each other, one is the UPC and the other is the serial number. These are on the side where there is a hand hold cutout and located to the right of the cutout.

Thanks for your help. I somehow completely missed the serial number labels when grabbing the UPC. Luckily the guy I sold the projector to was able to send me a scan of them.

I called the Epson rebate phone number today (562-276-7200). The S/N is key. If they have already paid out on a s/n, then you are not getting any rebate. There's an Epson 400 on ebay that probably falls into this category. In fact, looking at his feedback, he seems to have done this a few times (selling as new, after collecting on the rebate, even re-taping to make it look new and unopened).

I have to 2nd the posts that say to use certified and return receipt mail. I did this for my Z5 rebate and had peace of mind when the return receipt came back with a signature on it. I received my rebate shortly after that. Don't know if certified and return receipt helped at all but it's incredibly inexpensive considering the amount of the rebate.

Well I decided to call the rebate center to see how long it takes for your rebate materials to show as received on the website. They informed me that it typically takes about 6 weeks for it show that it was received on their system, I then asked if they would be able to tell me if they had in fact received the materials and unfortunately they are not able to tell until it is well in process typically about 4-6 weeks.

I chuckled and said so I might get my rebate before it shows on your site that you received it, the response was "it typically takes 6-8 to weeks for the rebate request to be processed, the site will most likely show the status once it is complete"

So unfotunately it takes a while, which we all knew. I gotta say though there was next to no wait time on the phone. Press 1 for english and it went right through.

Based on Epson's reputation, reading through their FAQ's and being able to quickly get through to CSR's I am confident that I will have no problems with the rebate. It's the waiting that gets to ya.

I read a dilbert cartoon a while back where they said they were going to sell their product for $1,000,001 with a $1,000,000 rebate and all they need is one person not to send in the rebate to be profitable. That reminds me of that $1000 rebate on the 1080p projector.

Scott Adams is brilliant, and many of his ideas come from the field (ie fans who send him the daily moronic stuff that actually happens in offices). Despite some cartoons being ridiculous in terms of magnitude (the rebate one being an example), they are quite factual/real life nonetheless, just on a smaller scale.

Just a data point.... I sent in my $500 HC-400 rebate form almost exactly one month ago. I recieved an email today saying they had received it and I should expect the check in 4 to 6 weeks.

BTW, I "upgraded" from an AE-700 and LOVE the new projector....

I received my $300 rebate last week, almost six weeks to the day after I mailed in my request. The Epson website never did indicate that my request had been received. The check simply showed up one day. I guess that's what counts, but next time I think I'll use registered mail with return receipt to reduce the anxiety.

I received my $500 rebate for the 400 early this week, mailed in 1/2 week of June.

Epson has been outstanding with their projector business- the 400 is the greatest price/performance projector to date, IMO.

I only wish their ink jet printer business was as admirable...

I thought I had blew it and was out $300 buck. I forgot to mail the rebate form within the stated time period. I sent it in anyway (about 15 days late) figuring I would never hear from them. A few days later I got a confirmation email and a week or so later I got a check. I think Epson is a stand up company more interested in the customer experience than in holding you to the fine print.

Hi all,

I mailed my rebate form around July 25. It took approximately 3 weeks to get the confirmation of my submission. Last Tuesday I received an e-mail indicating that that the check was on its way via priority mail. I received the check yesterday. High points for Epson reliability on rebates! In addition, enjoying greatly the projector.

Perhaps foolishly not using certified mail, thinking I was dealing with honest people, I never received the $200 rebate for my AE900. I did follow instructions and regularly receive rebates for a wide range of computer gear I buy. In fact, Panasonic is the only non-bankrupt company that I have ever been stiffed by on a rebate. As the story goes, if you are counting on the rebate to justify the purchase, don't buy it.
