Hello...

Was wondering if anyone had some new information that they can share on cabinet ventilation.

I am building a custom nook cabinet for my Sony XBR2 60" set and assorted toys. The fact that some of these toys get hot (PS3 and Onkyo 605) has me trying to figure out how to ventilate it. I am leaving the fronts open, but I'm still concerned that this will not be enough ventilation. So I am drilling 2.5" holes on the sides that will vent out into hollow wall spaces of the house.

Can anyone suggest some good fans that are quiet that I can use? Or any other form of ventilation?

Thanks in advance.

I've been looking at getting a couple of these (http://www.smarthome.com/8734fcc.html) for top exhaust fans. They're supposed to be nearly silent and turn on automatically at 87 degrees. I'm thinking of doing similar 2.5" or so holes, probably covered with screens. on the sides of the cabinet to draw in cool air. At $110, they strike me as a little pricey, but I haven't been able to put together a fan/thermostat setup for much less and these do look pretty clean.

I'm trying to cool an Xbox 360 and a D* HR20 in a ~20 sq. ft. cabinet, so I want something that I know gets the job done without being louder than the devices themselves.

Another possibility is to just get one of these pre-built units and a couple of big, low RPM PC fans and try to hook them in to the thermostat.

If anybody's come up with a better or cheaper setup, I'd love to hear about it.

Hey Cranio,

I ended up ordering from here:

On another forum they mentioned it and it seems like a good solution - I'm not that electronically inclined to connect 4 fans, make them variable speed, and hook them up to a temperature gage!

The price looked pretty decent. If you're not in a hurry I can give you some feedback on my impressions. I should get it middle of next week, so by next weekend I should have it installed.
