View Full Version : Which video processor do you use w/ JVC RS1 erandmckay 07-17-07, 05:02 PM Feel free to make comments (just don't stone me for asking the question). dj7675 07-18-07, 11:45 PM Key Digital HD Leeza Catdaddy67 07-19-07, 12:06 AM Theater lookin awesome, man. Dont stop, you are almost there. 8) I use my Anthem AVM50 for my scaling. Sherardp 07-19-07, 02:58 AM Vantage HD here, awesome scaler. Seen one paired up with the HD1 and simply had to have it. Lots of features to get the picture just right. Or should I say make it even better. erandmckay 07-19-07, 10:03 AM It's interesting to see the responses, so many not using a scaler and only three with DVDO since it looks like JVC will be marketing the VP50 with RS1 in their new combo offering. erandmckay 07-19-07, 10:05 AM Theater lookin awesome, man. Dont stop, you are almost there. 8) Thanks. It seems like it's taking for ever. Always something else that seems to take my attention away. This might be working to my favor though, as the RS1 wasn't available when I last worked diligently on the theater. Marc Rumsey 07-19-07, 01:13 PM Great job on your theater! Obviously there are a lot of options for video processors out there, but I think if you plan to invest in one to aid the RS1, it would be wise to get one that can do the color adjustments. This would allow you (or hire a professional) to properly adjust the RS1 to its max potential. We have sold a good number of the Crystallio II units, Lumagen Vision series, and actually have quite a few people awaiting the new Lumagen Radiance - all of which have been (or will be) paired with the RS1. These units are good choices because they are not only some of the most state of the art video processors available, but they can do all of the "preadjustments" that will help make up for the tweaking features that the JVC lacks internally. erandmckay 07-19-07, 05:45 PM Great job on your theater! It's the color tweaking/adjusting that I was most curious about. I appreciate everyone's comments so far. Wet1 07-19-07, 10:43 PM Great job on your theater! To the best of my knowledge (and I think this has been heavily covered), but I don't believe there is a VP on the market that will properly address the color deficiencies of the RS1. On the plus side, you guys might want to read this thread... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=877191 Marc Rumsey 07-20-07, 01:27 PM This is true. The limitations of the RS1 can only really be fixed by an update to the RS1 itself. However... Some video processors can help greatly improve upon, through their adjustments, some of the deficiencies of the RS1. vigga 07-20-07, 04:09 PM Marc- Tom Stites mentioned in his post that several "solutions for the RS1" would be at Cedia. Are you aware of anything else new besides the Radiance? soren 07-21-07, 05:47 PM In my opinion a HTPC is the perfect match for the RS1... It does HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, satellite, cable, downloadable stuff and SO much more. It does 1080p24, DTS-HD, Uncompressed PCM, Dolby True HD .. you name it. Pretty sure some CMS could be tweaked to compensate for the oversaturated colors in RS1. Marc Rumsey 07-23-07, 11:33 AM There will likely be many video processors shown at CEDIA, however it is too early to tell which of the new ones will be the best match for the RS1. JVC is also planning on releasing a processor, but we don't know yet if it will be available separately or only as a package. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.... BeBop 07-28-07, 07:52 PM Im using the VP30 to lower the saturation, and since it only puts out 1080i the projector does the deinterlacing. Keep thinking about upgrading to the VP50, but im not sure that it would make much difference in the PQ, which is awesome. VirusKiller 07-29-07, 10:35 AM Radiance XD beta unit. darrellh44 07-29-07, 06:31 PM Does anyone know if JVC plans on coming out with a cheaper version of the RS1 without the Gennum processor? With the new round of AV pre-pros and receivers coming out with internal VPs, it seems it will be more efficient to make projectors with a single native HDMI input and let the external processor handle all of the video switching and scaling. Besides getting the same video performance with a less expensive version of the RS1 (assuming a conferrable quality external processor), this would alleviate having to route separate projector cables for SD, component, and HDMI sources, not to mention that front projectors already have enough heat issues without taking on additional high power processing circuitry. Thanks, Darrell uberanalyst 07-29-07, 11:48 PM Anthem Statement D2 pre-pro with built-in Gennum scaler (which enables a heck of alot more functionality than the Gennum scaler of the RS-1). erandmckay 07-31-07, 06:16 PM I'm in the same boat as others regarding CEDIA. I agree with uberanalyst regarding the awesome capabilities of the D2, it would just be overkill for the rest of my system (I tend to see big differences in video, but only small ones in audio as you step up the ladder). I'm still surprised by the number going without a processor. Although that may change with the next group of lastest and greatest. Digital2004 07-31-07, 06:52 PM my ISCAN HD+ "says" to my Pioneer 868 that the HD1 is not hdcp. really weird. flashing blue light and no image (only if DVI bypass engaged). i guess it's an ISCAN software ugrade issue. no problem with my PDESIGN dlp. anyone has any idea ? no light HD1 scheduled. perhaps a mono LCOS 720p. and of course the HD1/scaler/lens combo. erandmckay 08-06-07, 11:45 PM It'll be interesting to see if JVC's new set-up with a processor will change the way the forum looks at using a video processor with their RS1. Thanks, Darrell Assuming this addressed the color problems of the RS1, I'd be very interested as well. What I like about this idea is not only the lower price, but the PJ itself could be somewhat smaller if processing was done externally (the RS1 is not a small PJ my any means). |
