I've been a DirecTV subscriber for a long time, and have a nice collection of DirecTV TiVos and one DTV HD DVR. The DTV HD DVR is a far cry from their TiVo cousins--audio drops, frame drops, bad remote response, etc.
Has anyone switched from DTV to cable, DTV HD DVR to Series 3 TiVo, or vice-versa, and care to comment on their experience? I care a lot about video quality.
Thanks!

Comcast has excellent SD and HD picture quality in my area. I feel better then DTV. Comcast does not have a OEM supplied TiVo DVR yet but it is coming.
If you believe that Comcast has better picture quality then you need to look at specifics that matter to you...
Comcast may or may not have the channels you want or you may pay more or less depending on what you specifically like to watch. And of course cost go up based on how many TV's you have.
You get a whole nice phone, internet and TV bundle with Comcast but no NFL Sunday ticket (as an example) so you need to look at what matters to you.

You won't be disappointed with the technical capabilities of the TiVo Series 3 with regard to video quality. What you need to consider is whether your neighborhood is one where cable picture quality is superior to satellite, is comparable to satellite, or is inferior to satellite.
I have been a DTV Tivo subscriber since 2000 (SAT-T60 plus 3 hughes/philips models and an HR10-250).
3-4 months ago replaced the T60 with an R15 and added a DTV HR20.
Was very concerned since everyone said they were trash and would never replace their Tivos.
I personally am very pleased and am looking to go all HR20.
Be happy to trade any of my Tivos for HR20 or low def for R15s.
No leased equipment unless you know somehow to trade those. All my Tivos are owned.

If video quality is what you want, Comcast is a noticeable step up from DirecTV in most markets.
Tivo just announced their new TivoHD HDTV DVR (http://www.tivo.com/whatistivo/tivohd/index.html?WT.ac=HPTkovr_PhotoToWhat) today @ $299. Review here:
