Looks like the GejBox;-) You're part of the DivX Connected Community beta group huh?

Yep— I was hoping it was going to have "GejBox;-)" across the top like some of the early photos.

-1 Requires server software.
-1 ?Playback of DVD IFO's?
-1 Form factor-Not 17 inch stndard component size.
-1 ?Playback of Mpeg2 / H.264 1920x1080 transport streams?

What can it do other than playback divx files, which are not too common on the internet in general. Can you post screenshots of the interface and supported formats/containers/codecs? How does it handle high bitrate content over a wired network? What hardware is inside.

On the surface it appears to be very limited device?

-1 Requires server software.
1. Yep, and it's not UPnP. But it has a nice interface. As I've posted before, I'm a firm believer that the server software makes the device, and UPnP has some limitations (e.g., FF and Rev).

-1 ?Playback of DVD IFO's?
2. Don't know yet, as I wrote on my blog (click the photo above), I just got it yesterday afternoon and haven't played with it much yet, other than to install it, run setup and turn it on.

-1 Form factor-Not 17 inch stndard component size.
3. I'd much rather have standard component size, but it's a beta box, so final form factor would be up to the manufacturing partners. Word is, the tech in the box is to be incorporated in cable boxes, etc.

-1 ?Playback of Mpeg2 / H.264 1920x1080 transport streams?
4. Don't know yet, but it does 720p and 1080i over component, so I'm hopeful.

What can it do other than playback divx files, which are not too common on the internet in general.
5. It does have a built in interface for g00gle video and stage 6. I'll be exploring more in detail later.

6. I'll have details later.

How does it handle high bitrate content over a wired network?
7. See #6.

What hardware is inside.
8. Per the beta agreement, I'm not allowed to disassemble, reverse engineer or otherwise peek inside. I'm respecting the agreement.

On the surface it appears to be very limited device?
9. It's beta, and the software seems very promising. As I said in #1, I believe that it's the server software that makes the device— the box itself is just menu formatting and a hardware interface to the rest of your rig.

Some of us prefer/require hardware which does not RELY on crappy server side software, which usually indicates crippled/limited hardware and relies on the PC to make up for the units handicap. When you store several terabytes of content on NAS's you cant just install software on these dedicated NAS's. The hardware should do everything and only require the server to stream files. I have bought countless worthless boxes which I dumped when I found devices which playback xvid's, avi's, mpeg 1/2's, DVD's with full menu support, and high bitrate high definition transport streams and only need the server to serve up the files stored on the file server.

Interested in your experiences though. Please post more.

If the server software can run on ANY NAS, then I am content. I don't want to be stuck with a PC on 24/7. From what I've seen on blogs (gizmodo or endgadget, don't remember which), the interface was really nice !
Keep on giving us feedback :)

Well, relying on the hardware to do all of the decoding ultimately limits you to the codecs on the box. Which is a legitimate approach, and I think preferable, if you're certain to stick to those codecs. However, when you go outside of those codecs, e.g., move to a more advanced codec, you don't have playback.

It's a legitimate argument as which is the better approach, but it's ultimately OT with respect to this thread. :)

My understanding (i.e., what I've heard, nothing from DivX) is that the box itself isn't going to be sold, but the software and technology inside the box will be licensed to third parties for incorporation in other devices, such as cable boxes, DVD players, PVRs, etc.
