What do you guys think about this sub, thinking about buying a used one but know nothing about it. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you and have a great day.

Having owned an M&K(MX90) and heard the others, I can't say it's a bass monster below 25hz much.

I feel there are better values out there(especially from the internet direct companies like Axiom, SVS and HSU)

On top of that, M&K is out of business so if something breaks, look out.

Thanks Shane, great advice. I really would like something down to about 20hz assuming I can afford it. Just bought a new projector and am getting ready to update my receiver and dvd player so price is a big concern right now on the sub. Thank you for the brand suggestions as I will look into those.

I was unaware that M&K went out of business. I know they closed their Chatsworth factory in February, but I did not know they ceased all production. I believe they may be producing elsewhere now.... after all, they have an all new line for 2007....

Can anyone confirm one way or another for sure if M&K is still in business? Thank you.

I am not entirely sure myself. I see that their online store is down. You could always give them a call and see if anyone answers ;)

As we reported last March, Ken Kreisel declared bankruptcy, closing M&K Sound after 34 years of operation. Last week, the Great American Group, which, according to its website, "provides asset management, disposition, and financial services," announced that it would offer M&K's $3 million in assets at auction on July 19.

M&K is out of business since the 20th of February.
(The auction in Chatsworth is today.)
Nothing produced since then is 'real'.

If you have setup questions I woul be glad to assist. If you have technical/parts question look for Chris Hagen on the so-called incorrectly-named but now defacto 'official m&K thread' in the speakers section. Chris was the chief manufacturing and production engineer and knows more about the internal secrets (drivers, crossovers, models, variations, customs, etc) than anyone.

By the way, the MX300 is an old and very rare model, but most of the dual-12" models ( MX 80, 90, 100, 105, 125, 150, 200, 300, 350, 2500) are all essentialy the same, with small power differences (1 or 2 dB as you step up the ladder) and small sales-pitch differences; some have speaker level inputs; some have speaker level inputs AND outputs (where the output is low cut so you don't need another crossover with a 2-channel setup)... all have RCA summing inputs but som have filtered RCA OUTPUTS as well; most have ainincorrectly labelled phase switch (it's polarity) and som have an actual phase rotation knob which far and away gives the best range of integration adjustment, and some are THX certified, with a THX switch position for the easiest no-brainer integration into a HT setup.

There are also series of drivers. The mid series says DISCOVER DEEP BASS (in the dustcap) The newest series says SUPERFAST DEEP BASS. The newer drivers are more sensitive, so all other things being equal you would get the availability of 5-6dB more output with the 'newer' drivers; i.e. if they were both "calibrated" to a reference level you would have 5-6 dB more headroom with the newer drivers.

My suggestion, if you can afford it, is to get a nice JL Audio sub and be done with your quest, and enjoy the sound.

Thank you Barry for the detailed info and response. I think I will take your advice and forget about M&K.
