I was going to register on the Progressive labs site, but they ask for a "probe serial number"...my old CA-1 doesn't have one, so it won't let me register.
What I really want to know is if there are any updates for this colorimeter, at this time I have the V.047 software.

Best thing to do is email or call Cliff Plavin at Progressive Labs. I think his contact info is on the site.

He's a great guy (at least every time I've spoken with him  ) and always answered my questions and was willing to help with anything.

If I remember right the CA-6X software will work with the CA-1, but it's best to ask Cliff.

I am also using Ver 3.8.4.047 too.

If you check with Cliff let us know if an update is available.

When did you buy your CA-1? Have you ever had it calibrated?

Kenny,
I have a VA-1, I think it’s the same thing but sold by AVS I it does have a serial number on the sensor, it’s a tiny tag with microscopic text, I used it and it let me in. PM me if you want.

There are two versions on the site. 2.1.28 and 2.4.4 update. According to the instruction you must have the original software installed and sure enough it doesn’t work. It gets a “runtime error 53, File Not found “Slpcal”. I think the code is written in VB, I recognize the error from old VB coding days.

If I remember correctly there is a calibration file for the sensor on the on the install disks. I have 2 copies of the disks for mine I hope one set is ok because floppies seem to go bad over time. Arrg! I forgot this will not be a 5 minute task, my laptop does not have a floppy drive.

The software that came with mine was really, really old, but worked well. I have no idea what version but I think it would even run on Windows 3.1. I haven't loaded it up for years, but I will try it later as soon as I find a pc with a floppy.

My NEC was so close to dead on per my calibrated eye on I never messed much with the color. :) But now looking at the grey scale I think it could be better. Are they any old threads out there going over how to use it a CA-1 with NEC It seems like I remember you writing one.

Frank, you are correct it probably should be calibrated but what the heck I will try anyway.
