I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a dedicated theater with some very high end gear. When we built the room, we had FPL (local elctricity) put in a dedicated 220 line which we ran into a Richard Grey power station. When I use my guitar amp, I hear too much buzzing. At the suggestion of my audio dealer, I checked the dimmers (Lutron x-10 controlled) and sure enough, that was the source. Is there a filter I can put on the 110 line that will get rid of the noise without affecting the x-10 signal? It is a constant buzz and worsens when the dimmer is changed (either manually or by x-10 signal).

When you use the dimmer, what are you dimming? Some low voltage lighting will cause dimmers to buzz.

As far as filters, most X-10 set ups use filters to prevent power line noise from thing like computers and TVs from interfering with the X-10 signal. Putting one in-line with your dimmer isn't going to help.

More info is needed (model of the dimmer, what type of lighting, etc).

You didn't say that you hear the buzzing in your Home Theater. You indicated you hear it when you use your Guitar Amp. If you are only hearing it when the Guitar pickup is connected to the amp, it is most likely due to the Guitar pickup or cabling. I would suggest checking your cables first. If the cable shielding is not good enough, a guitar pickup can easily pickup RF energy. X-10 uses 1 ms bursts at each zero crossing to send their signals. Trying to suppress the X-10 signal will only make your lighting system unreliable.

It is a leviton HCM10-1DW. I hear the buzzing through the subs (although much less because of crossover filtering) at the end of the room that is closest to the switches. I called Leviton and they had no ideas. Unfortunately, I don't think there is an easy solution. I was hoping that by posting here, someone would have been through a similar situation and had the solution. I may have to ground lift the entire system, which isn't really the solution but would help.
