This is unfamiliar territory for me. I bought my 50" Plasma screen (Panasonic 509UK) in December, and LCD didn't enter into the equation at that size and price. A friend has asked what I'd do. He wants 42" range, and doesn't want to spend too much. At that size, LCD surely needs to be considered although 1080P is not going to happen, but I'm a novice. What advice would you give?
Thanks for any thoughts.

If he is not going to be doing a lot of gaming and/or viewing in a very bright room/environment, I would go with the plasma. I am not sure you can get a 40" LCD for $1,200 anyway. But Sams or Costco should have a 42" Panasonic HD plasma for that price, or less.

Yes, Costco had a couple 1080p 42" LCD's on sale the last few weeks for $1k. One was Vizio VU42LF and the other was Magnavox 42MF437B.
