I'm building a new dedicated theater room with these specifications:

-21 feet 11 inches x 11 feet 5 inches
-Fully Blacked Out (No Windows)

My budget it around $12.000 for the projector, so I came across Runco Reflection RS-1100..What are the opinions on this projector?

This forum is notorious for being Runco haters (ie--"they're just rebadged and marked up", "overpriced", etc.). Don't buy that. Runco and the RS-1100 are great. Runcos seldom have the kind of poppy oversaturated picture that wows people right out of the gate. But the reason they have such a loyal folliowing is that they are very accurate, the scaling/video processing is top notch, and they can be calibrated to near perfect color, grayscale and gamma. They also do their research and select the best optics they can get for any given price point. In other words, when you come to see how natural the picture looks, it is ultimately far more satisfying than the flavor of the month projectors that seem to get all the attention (RS-1, Pearl, etc.).

So I'm not trying to diss forum members who like those other projectors, which certainly have their merits. But Runco is a valid option and you would be thrilled with an RS-1100. Be sure and get it calibrated. Runcos are completely transformed after a calibration.

We have the Runco RS-1100 installed in our office training room, approx 31' wide x 45' deep x 12' high, with total light control, Stewart 112" screen, and Toshiba HD-XA2 HD-DVD player. Integrating Home technologies is part of our business. Curious to know if the RS-1100 will handle the 1080p24 output now enabled with the 2.5 software just released?

Owner's manual does not provide answer and after I downloaded and installed new 2.5 update today, changed resolution to up to 1080p24FPS, the image data on the Runco projector still showed 1080p60.

X-Mart & Scott,
While searching AVS threads for RS-1100 I found your posting asking for opinion on that projector for your room, and followed several discussions including Scott's through to their conclusions. I consider myself a pretty knowledgable person when it comes to Audio/Video having been actively involved in the trade for more than 25 years. Speaking from 1st hand experience, we set up RS-1 into our room and it lacked sufficient footlamberts on screen, particularly when some lights were on in the training room. Next we tried Pearl and it too lacked the image strength. Both the RS-1 and Pearl are excellent projectors, just not in a room as large as ours. Believe that your room size will be excellent setup for the RS-1100, and the light control will make it pop.

RS-1100 has no visible screen door unless your face is about 24 inches from the screen, and absolutely no rainbow or other artifacts.

Believe our unit has standard lense, with zoom fully back, and either an 112 or 120" Stewart screen. Even when sitting in outside seats 16 feet from center and 10 feet back from screen, no visible loss of image quality or viewing angle problems even at this pretty extreme angle. Color rendition is spot on, with each source (satellite, HD-DVD, Computer) having its own calibration.

Of course we could have made a lower price projector work, with trade-offs. If you can afford the Runco RS-1100, buy it and enjoy!

I just called Runco at 9:30PM Eastern Time and they answered the phone. I simply called to inquire if their RS-1100 DLP Projector was capable of accepting and/or displaying a 1080p24 signal from my Toshiba HD-XA2 HD DVD Player. The receptionist took my name and number, and promised that I would get a call back. Not 2 minutes later a Runco technical service rep returned my call, AT 9:32PM. Regardless of their answer, their customer service impressed me.

Now for the answer provided by the Runco technical service rep: No, the RS-1100 accepts and displays only the 1080p60 input signal. The starting Runco projector which accepts and displays 1080p24 is the VX-22D.

Even though I was disappointed that my display fell short, I'm glad I took the advice of this forum and called Runco. Their service level exceeded my expectations.

I just installed Runco RS-1100 in my main theater room & was amazed at the picture quality & color accuracy. Don't fall for all those lofty light output & contrast ratio specs from some manufacturers as they mean very little in real world use especially when properly calibrated.
