I just ordered a samsung SP-H710 and have been very happy with its performance. I am aware of the startup issue many of the projectors seem to be having so I wanted to get some kind of idea of how prevelant the problem is. Could owners post and state when you purchased the projector, the manufacture date, hours of use and whether you have had any problems and if so what the problem was and whether it was fixed satisfactorily. I'll start:

Purchased: 7/19/07
Mfgr date of projector: 9/2006
Hours of use: 3 hrs
Problems: None yet (keeping fingers crossed)

Thanks!

There is a long thread in this forum with lots of members talking about the startup issue's they've had. There might have even been a poll. I did some quick looking and didn't find it - it might be in the archives.

For what its worth I went through two of these through March, April of last year. One was completely DOA - the other worked for 10 days before crapping out.

Good luck!

Thanks Vigga. I am aware of the startup issue thread however I wanted to see if there were also owners out there who have had the projector without any major problems. So far doesnt look too promising but we will see.

I don't remember the Manufacture date of mine, but it died after about 200 hours. I replaced it with a BenQ 8720 with no regrets and not looked back.

Scutfargas do you remember when you had the projector. Was it before my manufacture date of sept 2006. Im hoping samsung did somenthing about the problem and the newer models are fixed.

So far not a single good response. 0-2. Now im starting to worry. Im surprised Samsung hasnt been sued and is still selling this projector with all the known problems. Anyone have a positive experience????

Im sure there are many that would poll positive but chances are they are not reading the forum or are not on the forum as much. For instance a poll was just posted " what projector do you own". Of course the RS1 is wining that is because thats the current flavor of the month but in fact thee are just as many if not more Sony owners who did not post to the poll. For something like this these polls just do not result in accurate information and should be taken in fun.

The 710 does throw a great picture just make sure you are covered by warranty buying from an authorized dealer and you should have no worries. Hopefully you got a good one, best of luck :)

I went through one unit about 3 months after I bought it. I bought it the month it came out. Got a replacement and have had no problems since. I had no problems w/ samsung customer service, just took them a while to find the right department. I have about 3000 hrs on this unit. In fact we use it as our primary television, leaving it on for 6, 8, sometimes 10 hours at a time. I sincerely love this pj. It has an amazing picture, especially watching HD content. I keep pinching myself whenever I watch movies how fortunate I am to have this. Well, that's my experience. I honestly don't feel the need to upgrade anything.

This really says it all as it's still basically a crap shoot. Projector People was right there for me when my first unit went bad and my second unit, a July 06 build, is at 200 hrs and shows no signs of a start up issue the previous one had.
This PJ fits my room and the pix it throws is so worth the chance I'm taking on this unit. Knock wood for continued success.

So far so good. Day one was without incident.

Purchased: 7/20/07
Mfgr date of projector: 9/2006
Hours of use: 4 hrs
Problems: None yet

I haven’t seen any dead pixels, am able to get excellent focus over the entire screen, color uniformity looks great, and Planet Earth recorded from Discovery HD looked unbelievable. The depth this produces relative to my Panny 700 is amazing. Every thing is at default except I changed the color standard to "HD"

Mr2Spyder, (cool car by the way!) I know for a fact that my manufacture date was before Sept. '06 because I purchased the BenQ in Sept. '06. If I remember correctly, it was around October of '05, but I can't be positive. For what it's worth, the Samsung had an excellent picture when it was working. Also, I second Alan Gouger's opinion of buying from an authorized dealer. I purchased mine from Jason here at AVS and couldn't have been happier with the service!!!

Off topic, I did not pick up on the association with the car "Spyder"

My friend had one when we were growing up. Tiny car about 4" off the ground. I haven't seen one of these in many years. Fun car for sure:)

If this is too off topic and mods can delete it but I was wondering what screen brand and gain H710 owners are using.
I'm not trying to bogart this thread but I thought as long as we're gathering info on this projector...my apologies if I've overstepped.

While I do not have this projector I have seen it in action. Choosing a screen kinda depends on your needs. I think the ideal overall screen would be something with a gain of 1.3. This will give you a little punch with no hot spotting and very good off axis's with little to no color shift. Ill lt others chime in:)

Thanks Alan,
Right now I'm using Da-Lites HCCV with a 1.1 gain and me and my lens are 13' back in a totally light controlled room. I like the idea of a little extra punch which is why I wondered what others were using...I don't know how much difference going from 1.1 to say 1.3 with this projector would be. I would post in the screen section but since we were talking specifically about the Sammy we all own or have experienced...I might get some idea.

If you are at 1.1 I would not change anything try that first. You should be fine. You are right, the difference between 1.1 and 1.3 may not be visible to the eye. Dont fix what isn't broke :)

A definite step up from my Optoma HD72. Better blacks, natural colors, more shadow detail, less rainbows, quiet in theater mode, and beautiful case design. Easily worth a grand premium above an HD72/73.

sorry for the delayed reply. I have been out of town.

Problem is discoloration along the bottom right of the screen.

Probably about 30-40 pixels wide and 5-10 tall.

I have a replacement on the way.

should be here in about 2-3 days.
