If SVS PB10-NSD or the Energy 10.3 can both be purchased for the same price, would the SVS be a better sub to purchase?
Obviously many people have great things to say about SVS but the specs of the Energy seem to be comparable.

The S12.3 would be more of a comprable sub to the pb10. I think most would suggest the pb10 out of those two especially if they are the same price and space requirements are not a concern.

It would be more of a tossup between the 12.3 and the PB10, but just remember with the PB10 you need a AV receiver for it to work properly (not a stereo receiver or amp) since it doesn't have an internal crossover.
So the answer is PB10 (the PB10 has a lot more extension compared to the 10.3)

No question, the SVS is a better sub in every way. It would be close with the S12 though.

Ok, so with that being said, I'm assuming the HSU STF-2 would be comparable to the SVS 10" on the basis that its a "take your pick they are both awesome" type of sub.
If that is the case, would the STF-1, HSU's 8" sub be comparable to the Energy 10.3, with cost being comparable?

You can see all the subs except for the PB10 listed in Tom Nousaine's test results below. It's not the definitive answer, but all the tests were performed in the same room, in the same locations, with the same methodology.

^^^ Forgive the ignorance, but the ones that only go down to 32Hz on that chart up there are bad?

No, it just means that they focus more on the critical music range 40-100 Hz, rather than trying to play flat down to 16Hz.
When building a system, it's important to know what you're priorities are, and what the rest of your system is comprised of.
I have the SB12-Plus in my home right now for an audition, and it does very well on all the music I listen to, but it doesn't make the walls shack on WOTW. :-)
