I'm a big noob about pjs but I'm now charged with getting a Replacement pj for my work. What I have corrently is a Hitachi CPX1250. It is being used as a Rear Projection unit but I am going reconfigure the room to a front Projection setup. The Screen will be about 25 ft away and I have up to about $10k budgeted for this. 2 units I was looking at are the Optoma TX780 and the Sony VPL-FX52. I know the Optoma is a DLP unit and the Sony is a LCD unit. What I would like to know is since there's a Lumens output disparity (The TX780 is 4000 and the VPL-FX52 is 6000) is there a big difference between the 2 since the 2 are different types or are they about equal? What effect does the Lumens output really have? What should I be looking for in a pj? Or any other ones you could reccomend?

Thank you in advance,
Rik

I would guess the LCD at 6000 would be noticably brighter than the 4000 Lumen DLP. LCDs seem to have more accurate ratings. HOWEVER all manufacturers fudge a lot on these numbers and tell you what the projector is capable of, not what it would necessarily do in practice. So anything is possible

Lots of questions but it sounds like you favor horsepower over picture quality. You may want to rethink this for video applications
