View Full Version : Need opinions on the a/d/s HT10PS. speedoo64 07-20-07, 06:55 PM Just picked one up at woot for $295 shipped. Plan to use with some BA bookshelf speakers. r.owen07 07-21-07, 02:05 PM I just bought one from woot as well, I suppose we could just post our own opinions in a few days?! The styling matches my BIC Acoustech HT-75 tower speakers, and my current sub (built from parts express) is an eyesore (per my wife)... speedoo64 07-21-07, 05:17 PM Unfortunately it will be a while before I can hook mine up, but I will definitely look forward to your impressions. Considering the $5 shipping for a package weighing nearly 70 pounds, I could not pass it up. Eventually, it will go with a Boston Acoustics setup: 4 CR65's and a CRC center channel. All from woot. I may have to upgrade my receiver. r.owen07 07-22-07, 09:55 AM Nice...yeah I also bought my rear surrounds from woot. (MB Quart QLA46 OCTA white corner mount) My current receiver is an Onkyo TX-SR603X. I like the auto setup feature w/microphone, but it doesn't do HDMI, and it runs pretty hot. My next unit would most likely be a Denon, Yamaha, or Pioneer...anything that includes HDMI and an auto setup mic. The Onkyo will have to do for now, as my upcoming XBOX 360 Elite w/Halo3 purchase will run over $500.... r.owen07 07-31-07, 02:07 PM I haven't had too much time to spend with it, but so far I would give it a 8/10. Placement: Directly in the corner it's a bit intense and boomy if you listen to a lot of rap, but nice for rock etc., play with it a bit to get the sound you want. Performance: Wide dynamic range. I think this sub is designed to excel with movie soundtracks (ex. explosions, rumbles). Configuration: Crossover set to 80hz, you may need 100hz with your bookshelves, but it should work out fine. speedoo64 08-03-07, 12:30 PM Glad to hear you like it. Can you compare it to any of the subs discussed here at all? Have you tried it with any DVD's with heavy bass yet? I am still trying to get a handle on what kind of value it represents. Dunno where mine is, and I see others have received theirs. Guess I will have to inquire. r.owen07 08-04-07, 02:26 AM In the past I have used mostly pro sound equipment for subsonic sound reproduction. So, I only really have experience with the big nasty subs and equipment you normally would not use in your living space. The ADS is replacing my 18" JBL2241h, and Crown CE2000 power amp combo, the only other decent (home audio) sub that I had, was built from Parts Express. - The ADS has a wider dynamic range than this sub...it sounds so much more powerful and controlled, even though the parts express sub is a 500w 12"..... The only DVD I watched was Pirates: Dead mans chest, and my wife actually commented "good sound!" which believe me is impressive. This sub really makes movies come to life! I'm trying to find this test DVD I downloaded with a few movie clips and DTS live sound recordings, I'm sure that would sound amazing! There's no doubt we got a good deal. Log in to woot, click my account, and click the sub order and be sure it says it shipped. Verify your email address is accurate as I think they send out fed ex tracking info. speedoo64 08-04-07, 09:14 AM Thanks, I'm glad it's working so well for you and I'm obviously delighted to hear you say it's a good deal. Unfortunately, woot is telling me mine is lost and they are trying to track it down. It's going to be a while before I see or hear it! I've asked them to try to arrange for me to get another one if they can't track mine down. |
