This is great news for the 5 Mac users that actually own the outdated but compatible TV tuner.

Oh thank god. YouTube support. Having support to watch crappy low quality on your HDTV is so what is needed.

Well, it's good to have other options.. But, as mentioned, the tuner support looks slim, and I didn't see any ATSC (HDTV) tuners listed for Mac OS.

I see some other related products listed on their www site, like Sage TV Recorded. Can you have it record on another system (like a Linux server) then playback through a Mac? (Like the MythTV structure.) That would be an interesting option.

But, somehow I don't think it's gonna measure up to MythTV in features.

I've been playing with a demo of SageTV tonight, it's a cool piece of software. Very good at making all of your mac-based media easily available, even my video_TS files. For a mac that's too old to run frontrow, it's a great solution. The interface is very TiVo-like, which makes it an easy sell for the lady.

I just set up the demo on my MacBook using the Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2. So far things seem to be working ok. I would like to see support added for an IR blaster for set top box tuning, and HDTV tuner support, maybe the HDHome Run.

You -can- set up the windows or linux version with the placeshifter license and then use the placeshifter client on the Mac. That's currently the only way I know how to get around the support for the single device they released with.
