View Full Version : Tvix M-4000, NFS on XP, sharing E: drive, how?

When I use NFS on my PC (WinXP) using the Tvix software, C:/tvixhd1 can be shared and my M-4000 sees it. However C: is a small drive on my PC and most of my movies are ripped on D: and E: drives. So how do I go about sharing (say) E:/movies ?

In the tvix software running on the PC, I can point it to E:/movies, but the Tvix box doesn't see it. I even tried symlinking (shortcut in windows) E:/movies to C:/tvixhd1, no luck. It doesn't seem to like shortcuts or symlinks.

SO.. has anyone got any drive other than C:/... accessible on their Tvix? If so, how? Please let us know the magic recipe.

Answering myself here:

The NFS behaviour is really weird. I have E:/movies shared, but if I use the name "movies" on the Tvix box, it doesn't work. Instead, if I use "tvixhd1" on the Tvix M-4000, I can see E:/movies and everything in it.

So.. where is this "tvixhd1" name coming from?

Check the sticky nfs thread on hd mediabox pixelmagic forum.

Thanks, do you have a URL to any specific post? That thread is 6 pages long and I couldn't find something that describes this issue specifically. I'm looking here:

[Edit] Cr@p I can't post a URL.. guess it's the same for you too (4 posts here)

The tvix nfs server will not allow you to share the root directory and appears the "work out the details" with the box so that no matter what folder you share on your pc, you dont have to change the share name on the tvix box. I have had to play around with share names on the tvix for my asus router and enter the full share-/shares/MYVOLUME1/tvixhd1 or something similay. Their documentation on nfs is poor, but if you follow nfs rules it all works.

Any more luck?
Which NFS are you running? The Microsoft one (Unix for Windows)?

In order for the tvix to see your other NFS shares, you need to change the sharename on the tvix (under Normal(NFS)) to the sharename from you NFS-server.
E.g. if you have E:/movies, I would assume your sharename is "movies" (the NFS sharename can be different from the Samba sharename)
On the tvix I would assume you could use "movies" as the sharename.

If you indeed are using the Microsoft NFS server you also need to allow access from the tvix. That is explained in the PixelMagic thread (or you do a search of my postings... I did make a thread a long time ago about the issue)

Have you tried other NFS servers (Allegro, ProNFS, AxeNFS)?
You could also use Netshare from tvix.
If you want to try that you can make a folder on say C:\tvixhd1. Under that folder you can make a folder for each HDD/partition you have (D and E).
Next thing you do is to do a NTFS mounting (under admin tools somewhere). here you can mount D and E into each created folder.

On the tvix you can use the default sharename (tvixhd1). Now you should have access to both c:\tvixhd1, D and E:

Good luck!
