View Full Version : Whats a Nec XG-750 worth?
Hi, New here. I just got a Nec XG-750, and know NOTHING about them and for that matter projectors, other than i wanted one. TO be honest i was wanting one of the small DLp's ones that you see everywhere now, but ran across this Nec XG-750 today and bought it.
I was just wanting one to use in my rec room and to use outside by the pool at night for races and ball game and partys. The guy i got it from said Its in good working condition, and was recently pulled from a large record label conference room here in Nashville. It has a manufacturing date of February 1997 printed on the back. This projector features ACAT out, R, G, B inputs, H/HV inputs, V input, S-Video input, and a few others. Also includes 2 remotes!
I like the idea of a small DLP's due to the fact i'll be moving it from rec room to out side from time to time
So i'm wondering if i should keep the Nec 750 or sell it and just buy one of the smaller ones. If I were to sell the Nec XG-750 what Is it worth?
Thanks
P.S. Is the XG-750 a really good projector still now today, or was it good in its time? Sorry to sound so dumb, i'm sure alot of you here are really into this and up on it, but like i said, i know nothing about projectors at all!
draganm 07-21-07, 10:16 AM considering a CRT takes 8 hours to set-up properly it's not really something you can plop down in a rec room. they are great machines but if it was in a conference room showing computer desk-tops then the blue needs replacing. It's woth a few hundred bucks as-is. A new 720DLP will cost you about $700., they suck but they're good enoguh for what your doing. List the machine for sale here

I guess i will end up selling the XG-750. I just ran across a heck of a deal on it yesterday and bought, but i really just need something like the 720DLP your talking about for what i want to do with one. When you say a few hundred, like $200-$300, $400-$500, $600-$700 $800-? I guess theres a alot of depends, just trying to get a ball park figure.
Thanks
garyfritz 07-21-07, 01:17 PM Do you often buy "great deals" that you know nothing about??
Saying "how much is an XG750 worth" is a little like saying "how much is this 1975 Mustang worth?" Well, it depends. Are there 10k miles on the odometer, or 200k? Rust? Engine trouble? etc.
The best way to check a CRT projector's "odometer" is to look at the CRT faces. Get a long (~8-10") Philips screwdriver. There are 4 screws on each lens. Pull off the lenses and take a good picture (no flash) of the CRTs. Post that and we can give you a better guess.
I'm betting Dragan is right -- the tubes are probably toasted. Which means it's not worth much. But you should be able to get at least $150-200 for the lenses.
waxwing23 07-21-07, 01:39 PM You beat me to that XG by about 10 minutes. Check you PMs and give me a call
No dont always buy great deals i know nothing about, but i knew for sure is was worth what i gave for it., i could get what i gave for it, just out of the remotes most likely LOL.I know theres alot of depends on this or that, thats what i'm looking for on here to try to find out what i need to know and i appreciate your help. I talked to Waxwing23 on the land line, nice helpful fellow, and he could use it and he's local. I'd like to make a few bucks off of it, seeing as how its not really what i need,so i'm just kickin it around.
Thanks Again
dropzone7 07-21-07, 04:25 PM Oh, I replied to that ad and got no response. Now I know why! Congratulations on that buy and I hope you end up using it. If not, there will be several interested people here including myself.
Thanks Dropzone7, But i think i'm going to sell it. Its just not what i need for what i was wanting to do

I would be interested if the tubes are good. I would drive that far to get it if the price and condition are right.
Jesse S 07-22-07, 11:38 AM cathode tube ray man, geez at least get the acronym right if you're going to pump us for info so you can make a quick buck off one of us.

LOL :)
LOL, well after pumping yall for info, yall made it clear, this is not a projector you can move around from inside to ouside like what i was wanting one for. I thought when i got it i could build a cart and roll it from inside to outside, turn it on,roll it back and forth a bit to adjust the correct projection and SHAZAMMMMM ready to go in 5 min's!
If i was building a home theater, sounds like it would be a good one to keep, but for what i want to do, i just need one of those small DLP's
Curt Palme 07-22-07, 03:47 PM Don't you mean DPL's?
I was going to jump all over CTRman for the acronym flub, but didn't want to trash a newbie.
Now that he's seasoned with 5 posts, I see no reason not to jump all over him..:)
BTW, don't yell SHAZAMM! too loudly. Those DPL's sense that, and will blow the bulb faster than you can say... well, you know. :p

Don't let Curt get you down - I got my first Barco Data 600 from a company that purchased it new, for full price, with a similar idea to yours. When they gave it to me, they even included the nifty cart - seems they had planned on renting it out for presentations - load it into their truck, roll it into the room, hook up a laptop or tv tuner, and Viola (not SHAZZAM - they were a professional company) - 10' wide presentation display for a room full of people.
As I was told, it only took them 3 or 4 presentations to disabuse them of that notion. :p
Mark_A_W 07-23-07, 09:04 PM You can do it - I've had numerous projectors that I used to drag out on a stand, line up with some tape on the floor and then tweak the Static and Linearity.
Sure, it wasn't perfect, but good enough for video games and testing.
If you can get it within a couple of mm, it will work ok.

Did you ever hear the organization DAM?.... Mothers Against Dyslexia
Curt Palme 07-24-07, 01:53 AM Have you heard about the dyslexic atheist insommniac?
He lay awake at night wondering if there was a dog.
Its temping to keep it and install it in my rec room some day, but thats a down the road project, right now I just want to do the backyard deal most of all, and a under the arm, plug and play portable DLP would the trick. I only gave $50 bucks for this XG-75 with the 2 remotes. When i went to look at it, i was thinking it was going to be something on the size of a DLP, not this monster, but he said it was in good working condition when he removed it, so yeah i bought a great deal i knew nothing about, cause surely if nothing else i could get my $50 bucks back from selling A part off this monster machine i was looking at. You never know, it may have been used alot or maybe hardly at all. If its as good a CTR as yall say and i had to spend another $1000-$2000 bucks on it for whatever if anything it may need, sounds like I'd have a pretty cheap set up for a very nice home theater, but I need another hobby/project like i need hangover! So I guess the best thing for me to do is what garyfritz said, so i can get a better idea of what its worth and sell it.
