I've gotten myself a 6412 unit which was previously being used for Comcast cable in Chicago. I'm in Ontario; to be using cogeco.

No communication between cogeco and this box. Do I need to change over firmware or something?

The DVR has to be activated by your cable provider. You can't just plug it in and expect to start using it.

If it was not legitimately sold and purged from inventory, I recon Comcast in Chicago will not release it.
