As some of you know. I have been in search for the perfect subwoofer for sometime now. I have demo'd in my home many, many, many subwoofers. Right now I have an SVS PB10-NSD. I actually love the sound of it but want a little more oomph and kick in the chest. I had a PB12-NSD which I actually like very much as well but ended up with the 10 due to a great b stock deal on it and just wanting something quick and inexpensive. I am now in a financial position to spend about $1000 on a sub or subs. I actually have an order placed with av123 for two MFW-15'S at $499 a piece but am sick of waiting. I am now told that the MFW-15 might not be available until fall or winter, heck that means it could be 2008 until I get them! I am tired of waiting and have been following ED's subwoofer threads for a long time now. Anyway I am pretty much sold on the A5-300 and was thinking about getting two of them and stacking them. I also notice that ED has the A7-600 that has dual 12's and a 1300 watt amp. Which route would you suggest going. A couple of things that I am wondering about.

1. I have heard SVS dual subs and their single subs. I actually prefer the sound of the single sub compared to the dual. It sounds cleaner and more defined compared to the dual route. Now I know the ED might have a different design and might sound very good with their dual driver sub. But coming from the car audio world, I have always liked for my subs to have their own separate chambers and not share airspace with the other sub.

So my options here are the A7-600 with the 1300 watt amp and dual sub configuration.
Or two A5-300's with 1100 watts total power and stacking them on top of each other. I loose 200 watts but gain a considerable amount of box volume with the dual set up and the woofers won't be sharing the same airspace, they will have their own dedicated box and amp.

What do you guys think?

the design for the MWF15 is already done and they are moving onto a new sub. the only thing left is production. Mark has hinted very strongly of a september release for the MWF15's.

Get the eD A7 - 700 and turn it on it's side for a tower sub look, smaller footprint, Ohh and Uhh 2-15 inch subs!!

That should cure your upgraditis for at least 6 months.

I might wait 1 more month. But if there is not any word on it being available come 09-01.
I won't wait any longer.

Hmmm....a pair of A5-300's vs. 1 A7-600, haven't actually had a chance to compare them since we don't want to have 2 demo units of one sub :)

Obvious advantage to a pair over one would be the ability to place them at different points in the room to help even out response through the whole space. Output wise, I dunno, it'd be pretty close. The A7-600 is actually tuned ever so slightly lower than the A5-300 due to the fact that the length of the box can accomodate a longer port than the A5-300, think 18Hz vs. 20Hz. I don't think that graph has been updated on the site as the LMS testing was done with an older model that had a 20Hz tuning.

So...yeah...that's about all I can think of for differences of one vs. the other.

So sound quality is pretty much the same between the two units?

as long as the boxes are designed for single or dual drivers i wouldn't see why not. they use the same driver in the A5-300 as they do in the A7-600.

I live in West Des Moines.

I might have to run over to eD and see what the fuss is all about.
