Can anyone with a developer copy of Leopard confirm whether or not the new DVD Player.app supports HD DVD playback from a device such as the Xbox360 HD DVD drive?

Folks with developer previews are under NDA and not highly likely to share.

They are lot of people with Leopard that have not signed the NDA. :D

Do a Google search and you might find your answer.

A developer over at WWDC in San Francisco did a quick single post letting us know his first impressions after playing around with the new Mac OS X Leopard beta which was handed out after the keynote yesterday. It looks like Apple will support both HD DVD and Blu-ray in the upcoming version:

DVD player has been able to play HD-DVDs for a long time. It has blu-ray and HD-DVD settings in prefs now

Here's another thread on this subject on AVS forums:

Too bad I don't have a HD DVD player. It might able to play either format. The question is: Will it play copy protected titles?

Will it play copy protected titles?
Not really a big problem at this point in time.

As that other thread shows, there are people who claim both ways (Leopard has new support for BD/HD DVD, or that there are no changes to this stuff). Hopefully it will add HD-DVD support (while not requiring an Apple drive to work).

The next question will be, how much CPU power is needed to play the high bitrate content on those disks? The formats support a few different codecs.. but, in actual practice which codec is used? High bitrate 1080p H.264 might be beyond the capabilities of a Mac Mini.

PC spec, but might give you some idea

Quick question-

Assuming one has an Ubuntu backend and mini/OS X frontend...
Could you use the Ubuntu how-to referenced by Hesitant above to rip the HD-DVD to the backend storage, and then play it on the mini from MythVideos?
