View Full Version : Is Talladega Nights on Blu Ray basically worthless or what?

I recently acquired a second PS3 system. It was too good of a deal to pass up. Of course, with the system, I got another copy of Talladega Nights. So now that I have two copies of this movie, I figured I might as well sell both of them. Get some money from them. So I head on over to Ebay, to check and see how much these movies are going for. To my horrah, I see that many copies of Talladega Nights on Blu Ray are unsold, even ones where the total amount is less than 6 bucks.

Certainly, because the movie is included with the PS3, there is an absolute ton of these Blu Ray's floating around out there, and the demand isn't very high, so you end up with a Blu Ray movie that you might have a hard time even getting 4 bucks for.

I was wondering if anybody ever tried taking Talladega Nights on Blu Ray to one of those places that gives you credit for your used movies? Maybe you could actually get more credit than you would trying to sell the thing. I would love to somehow turn my two copies of Talladega Nights into one Ice Age, or one Chicken Little or something like that, but it appears that this is going to be an impossible task. Oh well.

Well its hard to do when the movie is a bare bones Dolby Digital 5.1 reelase and not the fully loaded Unrated version (that should of been included instead) I too have thought about trading in my disc but they label it for NO RESALE, but like stores pay attention to the labels

What a lousy movie, it could be the highest quality transfer in the world and would not it any less a pile of crap. I am actually dissapointed I actually sat through most of it.. I can understand why no on would want even if you gave it away. I saw it on a SD DVD bought used from Hollywood Video for $1. Way over priced at a $1.....

I have on watched a couple of Ferrell movies and I just don't get why people think he is funny. To me there was not funny about the insipid stupidity of the characters or that script.

I tried selling a copy for $10 plus $4 for shipping recently and it was the retail version with the pcm track and no one bid on ebay for it.... Sold a bunch of other blu ray movies and all of them sold but talladega nights.

the rated version was so much better than the unrated version. too many unfunny extended scenes or added ones. i just think the unrated version like many others are just bland.

Generally, I refrain from commenting on movies I have never seen. I have absolutely no desire to see this movie. Will Ferrell is one of those actors, that provides "forced" comedy. In other words, he could be the sequel in "From Justin from Kelly" and people would go to see him. I'd rather watch Harrison Ford dance around in a tootoo.

I caught a glance of the ESPYS, and it won the best sports movie of the year. What BS.

I'd love to get rid of this movie... I hate Will Ferrel so much, plus this movie sucks, it's not even funny.

It's not worth even trying to sell the barebones BD. Thankfully I like this flick, so I'll keep the copy I got with my PS3.

I've seen a few copys at gamestops. So I'd think you'd get a few bucks. Prehapps better then ebay with all the sellers fees and such.

I actually checked on this today. My local GameStop gives $3 store credit for it. I'm going to try to check a few other places. If I could get $5 for it, it would be worth it, considering I see many completed auctions unsold with zero bids at 99 cents with 4 dollars shipping.

If I had a copy on it, I'd try to see if I could pawn it off at a local joint that might not be too sophisticated about Blu-ray yet....You might get relatively lucky....?

For every person who hates this film there's somebody like me who loves it, relatively. Some of the characters remind me of folks I've known. Hey, I live in the buckle of the NASCAR Belt... ;)

Funny, I'm not a big fan myself, but he did an excellent job in Stranger Than Fiction. Good PCM audio and a decent video presentation.

Check it out!

Talledega Nights is like watching and smelling a bag of flaming feces left on your doorstep by drunk high schoolers.

It's a rubbish film...

Which translates in American English: "The movie is garbage" :D .

I agree with the Englishman and I thought that the movie was just plain awful. Why oh why did Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen (apart from the $$$) stake their recent successes by doing this turkey of a flick.

That is a false blanket statement. I am not a big fan of all his work and I do not certainly rush out to see his movies, but come on, he was great in Anchor Man :D . Also, his small role was very good in the Wedding Crashers and he basically was much more funny than Vaughn and O. Wilson (who I do not find funny).

but you have to at least admit that the Elf is a true comedy classic. one of the funniest movies ever made. a movie with a real soul too. deeply felt performances not just pure unadulterated comedy. he may have had his stinkers, but when he hits he hits. great flick.

I could watch Talladega Nights just about everyday of the week... I don't understand why so many people don't find this movie funny... like Anchorman before it, McKay and Ferrell made a brilliant comedy that gets better every time you see it.

i enjoyed the movie but the transfer and sound options are a downright shame.

I don't think the OP's experience is very surprising. You're going to have a pretty sizable pool of PS3 owners who DIDN'T buy it to watch movies, and put the title up on eBay. Thus the glut in pricing and sales.

I love this film and owned the unrated version on DVD before I bought a PS3 and got the "Free" version in my new PS3 box. I have to say the version they pack for free sucks badly. I believe it is on a BD25 with no lossless audio and no extras. Total waste of time, and again, I really enjoy this film.

I traded in this worthless version to a local used record/video store for credit and I eventually bought the unrated retail release of Taladega Nights. The retail version is on a BD50 with PCM sound and lots of extras. This version is waaayyy better. Some may like the other cut of the film better, but from a technical stand point and value wise, the unrated retail version kicks the ass of the freebie.

If you are a fan of the film, I would say the freebie is worthless and you should get the retail version.

how about the PQ? review sites reviewed the unrated version and still gave it pretty poor pq ratings.

the free pack in version was perfect for me. im not a nascar fan, nor a will farrel fan, but i enjoyed the movie and have watched it a number of times by myself or with others. its pretty damn funny if you like the "stupid" style humor. it also looks a lot better than many people give it credit for. so, not a movie i'd pay 20 bucks for, but nice to have the free copy around for random watching.
