Not too long ago, I bought a TV with both analog and digital tuners (NSTC/NATC/QAM, or however you spell those). I have Comcast basic analog cable, but can pick up a few unscrambled channels when I switch from Analog to Digital Mode. I don't get audio, but I can even view TNTHD and Mojo, which I guess is another HD channel. I can get the local channels, plus some music stations.

I know if I paid the money for a box I could get the rest of digital cable. But, when broadcasters stop sending out analog signals, does that also mean cable will upgrade all of their signals to digital?

Basically, I'm wondering if I can avoid getting a box for a year or two and just wait for a switch to be thrown and then recieve all the analog channels, but in digital quality. Thanks! :)

Yes, no... Well it depends...

In reality the digital change over does not effect cable television providers. But cable is also rushing head long in to the digital domain.

If your TV has a QAM and ATSC tuner then you are pretty much set and should not require a cable box unless you want premiums and your TV does not have a cable-card slot or cable providers change over to a switched digital video service.
