I want to turn you all onto a great bit torrent solution.... AzSMRC

Azureus is heavy on requirements, I agree, but no other bit torrent client I have found has the same remote front end capability.

What I have is a mythtv box running azureus and the AzSMRC plugin.
Then I have my desktops all running the AzSMRC client.

It looks like I have Azureus installed on my desktop, but its really just a front end... The killer feature for this is.... I can open torrents directly from my browser and they get sent to my media server. I can now reboot any desktop and my downloads progress normally. I nice'd azureus so it runs at a really low priority and doesn't seem to interfere with my mythtv at all.

I can set file priorities, pause and delete torrents... it behaves exactly like a local bit torrent client! (downloads also seem to go faster now that I have a dedicated box)

Everything except one feature is missing, being able to specify the download directory easily on a per torrent basis... You can manually type in the path for each torrent, or just let everything download into the same directory.

This plus Samba for my windows machine makes a pretty sweet bit torrent/file server.

Anyone have similar experiences or alternate setups?

**Disclaimer: I'm adding this cause avsforum apparantly hates the word bit torrent and makes me split it into two words. There are legitimate video downloads being distributed using bit torrent, and I believe it is going to empower smaller content producers to distribute great content without traditional distribution costs. This is why I support bit torrent.

The only legitimate recordings (in the USA) are the one you make with your own video camera. TV shows recorded from a network source are OK, for personal viewing only. The moment you share them with someone else, you are committing a crime.

And DVD rips are taboo, of course.

The same goes for music and audio files.

also legal are video podcasts made for distribution on bit torrent, such as those that can be found using the new Miro player!
