Gnash - GNU Flash rendering for the interface.
Gstreamer - everything else.

and some python to bind it together and create a standard method for rpc.

Now Gstreamer is something to attain...maybe...I think...not that the world of Linux AV is confusing or anything ;) but at the same time...why care about Gnash? Yeah Ok it really is open sourced and all vs the blobs provided for 'real' flash but at the same time...why is this such an issue? Also, what does RPC have to do with it?!? Fill me in my man! There's gotta be a punchline that you're sitting on based on your post!

Especially since a Linux version of the Flash player is available from Adobe. Or am I missing something.

no punchline, I just think that interface is everything in a pvr

fartures are nice, but gstreamer probably has all the capability you need.

I wish there was a pvr out there that allowed artists to create pvr front ends, and flash is used by artists.

The python/rpc is to get flash talking to gstreamer, and doing so in a way that is straightforward enough to use without having to learn everything about gstreamer.

You create the basic player application in python/gstreamer, create the nuts and bolts, default gstreamer plugin configurations for video, audio, live tv... then you expose basic controls to the flash developer... pause, play, fast forward...

make development of the ui easy for non-developers

I'll admit, i've been trying to pimp the idea of a flash or svg dvr for years now, but noone wants to take the idea up. Svg doesn't have developed enough tools, and flash has always been too non-free.

CT, flash is available for firefox.... but not for anything else

the license for flash specifically disallows redistribution with set top box type software
